‎De 'vergeten' kunst van het etsen opnieuw op de kaart ze en. Dat is het belangrijkste uitgangspunt bij de oprichting van de Nederlandsche Etsclub in 1885 door een groep jonge, ambieuze kunstenaars onder leiding van Willem Witsen, Jan Veth en Antoon Derkinderen. Samen is men sterker was het idee en dus werden ook oudere kunstenaars als Jozef Isra ls, Anton Mauve en Jacob Maris uit. En De Etsclub nodigt vrouwelijke kunstenaars als Th rese Schwartze, Barbara van Houten, Etha Fles, Wally Moes en Suze Robertson uit om deel te nemen en breekt zo -bewust of niet- een lans voor vrouwelijke grafici. De Etsclub nam tussen 1885 en 1896 deel aan tentoonstellingen van hedendaagse kunst, maar organiseerde zelf ook tentoonstellingen in Amsterdam en DenHaag. Voor de internationale context werden daarvoor ook Engelse en Franse kunstenaars gevraagd: James Abbot McNeil Whistler, Francis Seymour Hadden, Charles Fran ois Daubigny, Theodoor Rousseau en Mary Cassa . Daarnaast gaf De Etsclub jaarlijks een map uit met minstens 10 werken van kunstenaarsleden. Donateurs kregen jaarlijks zo?n portefeuille. In de en jaar van haar bestaan werden 9 portefeuilles uitgeven met in totaal honderd werken van 28 verschillende kunstenaars Jaap Versteegh gaat uitgebreid in op de opkomst van de etstechniek in de negen ende eeuw in interna onale context. Vervolgens legt hij de focus op het ontstaan en verdere verloop van de Nederlandsche Etsclub. In een gedetailleerde geschiedenis laat hij de hoofdrolspelers veelal via citaten aan het woord. Suzanne Veldink behandelt in haar bijdrage de vrouwelijke leden van De Etsclub. De grafici Wally Moes, Th r se Schwartze, Barbara van Houten en Etha Fles hadden ieder hun eigen ontwikkeling en hun persoonlijke redenen om lid te worden. Daarnaast besteed zij uitgebreid aandacht Mary Cassa . The point of departure of this book is the recognition of the polysemy of perspective, that is, the plurality of meanings of perspective. Vanaf de hoge middeleeuwen trokken pelgrims massaal naar Geel om een glimp op te vangen van de heilige Dimpa en brachten ze hulde aan de plaatselijke beroemdheid in de hoop hun psychische problemen te verlichten. Ook vandaag staat Geel nog bekend omwille van zijn bijzondere omgang met geesteszieken, die er thuis bij de inwoners worden opgevangen. In de vroege zestiende eeuw deed de populariteit van de heilige Dimpna de abt van de abdij van Tongerlo besluiten een enorm altaarstuk te laten maken dat het levensverhaal van deze bijzondere heilige zou verbeelden. De opdracht kwam in handen van de Antwerpse schilder Goossen Van der Weyden, kleinzoon van Vlaamse Primitief Rogier, die in zijn eclectische stijl heel wat ele menten van zijn grootvader overnam. Het resultaat van deze opdracht, het monumentale Dimpna-altaarstuk, werd recentelijk verworven door The Phoebus Foundation. De panelen werden gedurende drie jaar behandeld in het restauratieate lier van de Foundation. Het verbluffende resultaat leidde tot nieuwe inzichten over de ontstaansgeschiedenis van het altaar stuk, zijn maker en opdrachtgever, en over de cultus van de heilige Dimpna. ‎Un livre des plus étrange : Tobias Swinden dans ce traité démontre que l’enfer est bien réel et ne peut en aucune manière être une métaphore. Il répond ensuite à la question de la localisation du Tartare : il ne peut se trouver au centre contrairement à ce que prétendaient les grecs, le feu a besoin de combustibles et d’air pour s’entretenir, un tel brasier finirait par s’étouffer et s’éteindre, par ailleurs la quantité d’eau des océans par infiltration interdit de penser qu’un tel brasier existe. Par contre tout désigne le soleil : spacieux, créé par le seigneur, il est présent dans la genèse, ne dit ont pas que les anges déchus tombent ? Ils sont aspirés par le soleil, le nombre presque infini d’âmes de damnés, de toute manière ne pourrait pas tenir dans un espace confiné comme le centre de la terre. Alors que le soleil lui est immense ! Swinden illustre son propos par deux grandes cartes, la première du système solaire ou le tartare remplace le soleil, la seconde, est la reproduction du corps du soleil tel qu’elle a été découverte en 1635 par les pères Kircher et Scheiner. On y voit les pôles arctiques et antarctiques , les sources de la lumière, et les exhalaisons à l’origine des taches que l’on observe à sa surface. On en arrive ici à l’idée assez poétique, que les méchants après une vie dissolue nous chauffent et nous éclairent jusqu’à la fin des temps. ‎
