Social inequality is one of the most pressing global challenges at the start of the 21st century. Meanwhile, across the globe at least half of the world?s population lives in urban agglomerations, and urbanisation is still expanding. This book engages with the complex interplay between urbanisation and inequality. In doing so it concentrates on the Low Countries, one of the oldest and most urbanised societies of Europe. It questions whether the historic poly-nuclear and decentralised urban system of the Low Countries contributed to specific outcomes in social inequality. In doing so, the authors look beyond the most commonly used perspective of economic inequality. They instead expand our knowledge by exploring social inequality from a multidimensional perspective. This book includes essays and case-studies on cultural inequalities, the relationship between social and consumption inequality, the politics of (in)equality, the impact of shocks and crises, as well as the complex social relationships across the urban network and between town and countryside.

Maroquin noir janséniste, décor à froid, guirlande d'encadrement à motifs floraux sur les plats, armes au centre, fleurons au dos, tranches lustrées violet noir, gardes de papier dominoté fortement coloré. Armes entourées de la devise zelo zelatus sum pro domino deo exercituum, propre aux Carmelites. Des fermoirs de la reliure il ne reste qu'une charnière et 2 butées. Papier parfois plus ou moins jauni mais sans rousseurs. Je n'ai pas pu déterminer l'origine des armes mais elles semblent appartenir à un dignitaire du Carmel. Photo sur demande.

First edition of this historical and topographical poem about Batavia. Jan de Marre (1696-1763) was a seaman at the Dutch East India Company (VOC) for a long period in the beginning of the 18th century. He was the Commander of a VOC ship to the East Indies in 1731 and visited Batavia at this time. A year later he retired from the Company and moved on to a career of writing and theatre directing. *Landwher VOC 1547.

Summary On account of the artists' collaborative practice, Sebastiano del Piombo's oeuvre is often misconstrued as a coloristic supplement to Michelangelo's disegno or as a mere extension of the older master's drawings and ideas. Marsha Libina's book complicates this narrative by offering a critical reevaluation of the devotional art of Sebastiano del Piombo (1485-1547), an important Venetian artist whose Roman work stands at the nexus of questions regarding art, religious reform and the largely unexplored history of artistic collaboration. Investigating new ways of understanding Sebastiano's interest in soliciting Michelangelo's drawings as catalysts of invention, Libina tells the story of a collaboration driven neither by a compliant imitation of Michelangelo nor the reconciliation of opposing regional styles but, rather, by an interest in hermeneutically productive difference - generating complementary yet divergent approaches to art as a vehicle of reform. This volume presents an in-depth exploration of how Sebastiano's experiments with the sacred image - like Michelangelo's - were formulated in response to the early years of Catholic reform. The years preceding the Council of Trent saw the rise of divisive investigations into the repercussions of an increasingly mediated knowledge of the divine. Libina reveals how these concerns converge in Sebastiano's new language of devotional painting, which embraces an aesthetic of figural stillness, isolation and psychological detachment. At a moment when religious debates and questions about the role of image-based devotion took center stage, Sebastiano's work offered a reflection on what it meant to view and meditate on the body of Christ in the Renaissance altarpiece. Janvier-Juin 1819. 2 volumes in-8 (130 x 206mm) dos et coins parchemin pièces de titre rouges, pièces de tomaison bleues, plats roses, tranches mouchetées de bleu, 568 et 568 pages. Des rousseurs parfois importantes, cachet bleu d'ancien possesseur, coupure de presse ajoutée. Assez bon exemplaire. Peu courant.
Hatin, 1819: La totalité de ce qui est paru dans ce format. Après les lois de 1819, il prend le grand format et devient quotidien. Cette feuille, qui se fit par ses violentes excentricités une renommée si bruyante, prit naissance à la chute du ministère Descazes, au moment où les hommes du Conservatuer se personnifièrent au pouvoir en la personne de M. de Villèle. Le gros du troupeau, comme c'est l'ordinaire, avait suivi son chef au pouvoir. L'autre parti, moindre, qu'on appela l'Incorruptible, se releva avec le Drapeau blanc, qui eut pour rédacteurs outre Martainville, Lamennais, de Haller, O'Mahouy, Saint-Victor, Salgues, Achille de Jouffroy, Nodier, Henri de Bonald, etc. Vive le Roi quand même!.
