‎The volume comprises a complete edition of the large manuscript Panciatichi 27, compiled at the beginning of the sixteenth century: 185 compositions (parts of masses, motets, Magnificat sections, litanies, lamentations, dances, instrumental pieces, frottole, laude, chansons, etc.). Nearly one-third of the compositions have Italian texts. The introduction takes into account the complex relationships with some 600 concordant sources, both poetic and musical, manuscript and print. Some compositions are closely related to printed sources of the early sixteenth century: several pieces were copied from publications by Petrucci and the Canzoni nove of Antico (1510), which helps in dating the manuscript. The work of a single scribe (apart from two pieces), the manuscript was evidently compiled for practical purposes, as is evident from the small format, the absence of decorative elements, erasures and corrections, alternative readings, duplications of parts of the texts, and the intriguing presence of arabic numbers at the ends of many pieces, related to the number of semibreves in the composition or its parts. It has been suggested that Panciatichi 27 was copied in northern Italy (Mantua or Ferrara); further evidence ? in particular a repertorial connection with Augsburg, Staats- und Stadtbibliothek, MS 2? 142a ? points to Mantua. The commentary on each composition includes a complete list of concordances (many newly discovered) with bibliographical references and an evaluation of the relationships with concordant sources. ‎The idea to assemble an Album Amicorum Albert Dunning - a Festschrift to celebrate the 65th birthday of the distinguished musicologist - came from within the Faculty of Musicology of Pavia University. And to accomplish that aim, thirty scholars - colleagues, friends and pupils - have brought together their separate skills. Dunning?s long career dedicated to musicology has spanned at least four decades; and throughout, it has had a specifically international character. His studies at the University of Amsterdam were crowned in 1969 with a doctorate and a dissertation entitled Die Staatsmotette: 1480-1555. The work was duly published and immediately established itself as a Standardwerk. There followed the years of research in Vienna and Munich, then those of teaching and research at Tubingen, Syracuse (NY) and Poitiers. A brief interlude in Frankfurt was succeeded by a longer period in his home country at the Vrije Universiteit of Amsterdam, the Rijksuniversiteit of Utrecht and the Netherlands Institute of Advanced Studies of Wassenaar. Since 1988 Albert Dunning has been a professor of History of Modern and Contemporary Music at the University of Pavia?s Faculty of Musicology, based in the city of Cremona. The essays collected in the present volume pay a tribute to Albert Dunning?s preferred fields of research: the vocal music of the Humanist and Renaissance period and the music of the 18th century, with a special partiality for Mozart and Locatelli. Regarding Locatelli, Dunning has not only issued the fundamental monograph Pietro Antonio Locatelli: der Virtuose und seine Welt, but also directed the (recently completed) critical edition of the great violinist?s Opera Omnia. The bulk of this Album Amicorum is therefore devoted to contributions on the music of the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods. The occasional incursions into other areas of inquiry are to be understood as a reflection of the broad interests that Dunning has constantly cultivated, especially in his teaching. ‎Gijsbert Hanekroot begon eind jaren zestig met het fotograferen van popgroepen. De eerste jaren als freelance fotograaf voor muziekkrant Oor. Zelf zegt hij over die periode: 'The seventies. Hectisch, bruisend, spannend, opwindend, creatief. Zichzelf steeds opnieuw uitvindend, vol zelfvertrouwen. Soms vermoeiend, maar dat nooit lang. Ik ben er bij geweest. Als fotograaf en muziekliefhebber, eigenlijk meer als het eerste dan als het laatste. Abba ... Zappa toont de bezoeker foto's van concerten, studiofoto's, portretten en foto's die zijn gemaakt tijdens persconferenties. De concertfoto's kwamen tot stand onder omstandigheden die nu nauwelijks meer denkbaar zijn. Fotografen stonden op de eerste rij en konden nog het hele concert werken en niet alleen bij de eerste drie nummers zoals nu het geval is. De portretten maakte Hanekroot meestal tijdens interviews (vaak was dat samen met popjournalist Pim Oets) en soms in de studio. Hij kon zo dicht bij de muzikanten komen dat ze ook op subtielere uitdrukkingen, verdriet en emoties te betrappen waren. Bonnie Raitt, John Entwhistle, John Fogerty en veel anderen laten allemaal de mens achter de musicus zien.‎
