‎Summary In 1904, Edward Kennard Rand published a Latin sermon by an unknown author from a single manuscript of the ninth century that recounts the amazement of the devil at the crucifixion of Jesus and the devil's defeat at the coming of Christ into the underworld, or the Harrowing of Hell. This Sermo de confusione diaboli et inferni added a new dimension to the already complex body of research on the sermons attributed to pseudo-Eusebius of Alexandria and the Gospel of Nicodemus. A century later, new witnesses of the text edited by Rand and an unedited Latin translation of pseudo-Eusebius' Sermo 17 have begun to shed new light on the interconnectedness of all these materials. The present book critically edits the newly identified Latin documents and discusses them in relation to their Greek source(s) and to one another. It retraces the paths from the protean forms of pseudo-Eusebius' Greek sermons 15 and 17 to their Latin translations, to the Sermo de confusione diaboli et inferni, and to the Gospel of Nicodemus. ‎Les tomes I et II constituent une vaste introduction historique consacrée à l’Égypte ancienne et médiévale. Le tome I traite de l’Égypte pharaonique : institutions, religion, mœurs, organisation sociale, chronologie dynastique et monuments. Le tome II prolonge cette étude depuis l’époque gréco-romaine jusqu’à la domination ottomane, offrant un tableau historique de l’Égypte jusqu’au débarquement des troupes françaises. Les tomes IV à VIII sont consacrés à l’expédition d’Égypte (1798–1801). Le tome IV reprend le récit des opérations après le débarquement français, l’entrée en Égypte et l’installation du pouvoir militaire et administratif. ‎Né à Vitré en Bretagne (1750-1788), Claude-Etienne Savary part en Egypte en 1776 ; parlant l’arabe, il a pu saisir toutes les subtilités de cette civilisation et s’ouvrir des portes intéressantes, ce qui rend son récit très vivant ; ce voyage fera de lui un pionnier de l’Egyptologie et un fin connaisseur de la civilisation musulmane ; c’est tout naturellement qu’il fait la seconde traduction française du Coran (après celle de Du Ryer au XVIIe siècle), en respectant le style et la division du texte en sourates et versets. Ces lettres à son ami Lemonnier constituent une réussite littéraire bien avant la mode romantique des voyages en Orient, et, à la veille de la Campagne d’Egypte, elles seront très utiles aux officiers français pour comprendre et s’adapter à la mentalité du pays. Bord d’une page de titre légèrement défraichi, fente à une carte, restaurée, avec une minuscule perte, et petits frottements sur le papier des plats ; à part ces petits défauts d’usage, l’exemplaire est en bon état.
