Plein maroquin brun dépoque, dos à cinq nerfs muet orné de filets à froid et motifs dans les caissons, filets dencadrement des plats concentriques estampés à froid avec encadrement floral au centre dans plats portant la mention : A Isabelle de Carini, volons servir pour Dieu prier, ving Dieu par tout aymeray et loyalle luy seray, double filet doré sur les coupes, chasses et coiffes, tranches dorées avec motifs, gardes de toile bordeau, fermoirs en laiton avec ornements gravés. (Signé Gruel, en lettres dorées, en queue).‎

‎Exemplaire très bien relié de ces Heures du Moyen- ge de Gruel, ouvrage entièrement enluminé, lithographié en couleurs et rehaussé à l'or, respectant l'esthétique des manuscrits médiévaux, dans leur fantaisie et leur raffinement. Ces ouvrages richement illustrés étaient souvent des cadeaux offerts à loccasion dun mariage notamment. En plus des encadrements enluminés, l'ouvrage compte un titre complètement enluminé, une illustration à pleine page et 13 grandes figures placées au centre de la page (la nativité, la Vierge à lenfant, lAdoration des Mages et des Bergers, le Christ en croix etc.). L'ouvrage se compose d'un calendrier (orné dun large encadrement enluminé, avec des médaillons historiés selon les saisons, et des scènes religieuses) puis de la Messe. On distingue dans les encadrements enluminés des bandeaux pleins et complètement colorés ornés de divers motifs, des entrelacs d'arabesques dans lesquels viennent se nicher fleurs et figures, ainsi qu'une construction autour du motif de la cathédrale et reprenant les grands piliers et leurs statues et où s'insèrent des scènes religieuses. Aucun encadrement nest semblable. L'ornementation est très riche : bestiaire naturel ou légendaire très varié, anges, fleurs de lis, scènes de la vie médiévale (hommes sentraînant au tir à larc, élégantes chez un marchand de bijoux, tournoi, etc.) Le texte est écrit à encre noire, rouge et bleue, avec de très nombreuses lettrines dorées et de petits ornements. Très bel ouvrage en parfaite condition. 1 vol. 12mo (160 x 125 mm) of : [1] f. (date and medallion ornaments), CXCII (192, including illuminated title) ; [4] ff. ("Souvenirs de famille": blank leaves with blue and red framing). 1 large full-page illustration and 13 medium-sized illustrations in the text. Full contemporary brown morocco, muted five-rib spine decorated with cold-stamped fillets and motifs in the boxes, concentric cold-stamped fillets framing the boards with floral framing in the center in boards inscribed: "A Isabelle de Carini, volons servir pour Dieu prier, ving Dieu par tout aymeray et loyalle luy seray", double gilt fillet on the necks, chasses and headpieces, gilt edges with motifs, burgundy cloth endpapers, brass clasps with engraved ornaments. (Signed Gruel, in gilt lettering, on tail). A very well-bound copy of Gruel's Heures du Moyen-ge, a fully illuminated work, lithographed in color and enhanced with gold, respecting the aesthetics of medieval manuscripts, in all their fantasy and refinement. These richly illustrated works were often given as wedding gifts. In addition to the illuminated frames, the work features a fully illuminated title, a full-page illustration and 13 large figures placed in the center of the page (the Nativity, the Virgin and Child, the Adoration of the Magi and Shepherds, Christ on the Cross, etc.). The work consists of a calendar (decorated with a large illuminated frame, with medallions historiated according to the seasons, and religious scenes) and the Mass. The illuminated frames feature full, fully-colored bands with various motifs, arabesque interlacing with flowers and figures, and a construction based on the cathedral motif, with large pillars and statues, and religious scenes. No two frames are alike. The ornamentation is very rich: a wide variety of natural and legendary bestiary, angels, fleurs-de-lis, scenes from medieval life (men practicing archery, elegant ladies in a jewelry shop, a tournament, etc.). The text is written in black, red and blue ink, with numerous gilded initials and small ornaments. Very fine work in perfect condition.‎
