‎In 2019 is het honderd jaar geleden dat het Bauhaus werd opgericht, de revolutionaire kunst- en ontwerpschool waarvan de invloed nog steeds voelbaar is. De baanbrekende uitgangspunten van de opleiding hebben ook in Nederland nadrukkelijk weerklank gevonden in architectuur, vormgeving en het ontwerponderwijs. Al voor de oprichting zijn H.P. Berlage, Mathieu Lauweriks en Johan Thorn Prikker lid van de Deutsche Werkbund. De opvattingen van deze organisatie over de samenwerking tussen kunstenaars, architecten en de industrie vormden een belangrijke inspiratiebron voor het Bauhaus. Maar ook het tijdschrift De Stijl werd door docenten en studenten aan het Bauhaus gelezen en de De Stijl-leden Theo van Doesburg en J.J.P. Oud onderhielden nauwe contacten met het Bauhaus. Via een netwerk van personen, tentoonstellingen, tijdschriften, congressen, onderwijs en werkplaatsen verspreidde het gedachtegoed van het Bauhaus zich verder en na de sluiting van de opleiding in 1933 werden meerdere voormalige studenten en docenten actief in Nederland. Deze omvangrijke en rijk geillustreerde publicatie ontsluit het fijnmazige netwerk van intensieve relaties tussen Nederland en het Bauhaus. ‎Francis Bernard crée une femme moderne -faite d'engrenages- symbolisant le progrès technique dans les Arts Ménagers, mis à l'honneur dans ce salon qui est né en 1923. Francis Bernard, affichiste publicitaire, élève à l'École des Beaux-arts de Marseille et Paris, ainsi que d'Ernst Laurent. Dès 1925, il se consacre à la publicité sur les conseils de son ami Gus Bofa. En 1927 il rejoint l'agence d'édition publicitaire Martial dont il devient l'un des affichistes exclusif. Il fut membre de l'Union des Artistes Modernes à partir de 1931, comme Loupot, Paul Colin, Carlu, Cassande et fut l'un des premiers à intégrer la photographie en réalisant notamment des photomontages ... Il réalise ici une superbe affiche dans laquelle la modernité est symbolisée par une schématisation des formes et l'intégration de la mécanique. Infimes déchirures marginales et plis. ‎
