‎First printing of a groundbreaking paper in biochemistry and physiology, as Graham here introduced the distinction between colloidal and crystalloid substances by his method of separating animal and other fluids.""Although some isolated investigations on colloids had been carried out before Graham, his publications in this field laid the foundations of colloid chemistry. In ""On the Diffusion of Liquids,"" Graham applied to liquids the exact method of inquiry he had applied to gases twenty years before, and he succeeded in placing the subject of liquid diffusion on about the same footing as that to which he had raised the subject of gaseous diffusion prior to the discovery of his numerical law. ‎The work provides both the original French of the inscriptions in verse and a prose translation in English. ???LE RECUEIL DES INSCRIPTIONS was composed in 1558 by Estienne Jodelle, sometime member of the Pleiade, on commission from the city fathers of Paris for a celebration of the recapture of Calais from the English. In just over a week Jodelle drew up complete plans for the decoration of the Hotel de Ville in Paris and composed the inscriptions which were to accompany the required pictures, as well as the dramatic representations which were to follow the official banquet. This volume presents the authentic text of the LE RECUEIL DES INSCRIPTIONS and gives a full account of the celebration. In good condition.‎

‎et qui paraitra sous le titre définitif "Le Charcutier de Machonville", par Marcel-E. Grancher, auteur lyonnais, journaliste, écrivain, un des principaux chefs de la Résistance à Lyon pendant l'Occupation allemande. In-4 ; demi-maroquin bordeaux, dos à nerfs, titre doré, non rogné ; (3) ff., 230 feuillets recto, à l'écriture bien lisible.Il s'agit du manuscrit brut, rempli de ratures, rajouts, modifications diverses y compris de bandes collées, du plus célèbre roman de Grancher, Grand Prix littéraire de Lyon en 1936 et Prix Courteline en 1938 ; il est daté de "Reyrieux, janvier 1942" et est émaillé d'indications typographiques. Comme il ne s'agit pas de la "mise au propre", il serait intéressant de comparer précisément ce texte avec celui finalement publié.Mention manuscrite sur la page de garde : "J'ai relié ce livre pendant la guerre de 40, le client ne m'a pas donné son nom ni adresse, je le tiens donc à sa disposition. Signé H. Jacquet, relieur 7, rue des Marronniers. Lyon".Document en très bel état.‎

‎Né à Lons-le-Saulnier, Marcel Grancher fit ses études à Lyon où il passera l'essentiel de sa vie. Blessé sur le front de Flandres en 1918, il reviendra avec la Légion d'Honneur et ses souvenirs de guerre que l'on retrouve dans "5 de campagne". Il commencera alors une longue acrrière de journaliste en fondant "Le Mois à Lyon" et en collaborant à de nombreux journaux et de romancier (plus d'une centaine d'ouvrages), publiant de bons ouvrages sur Lyon (La Soierie meurt ; Nuits de Lyon ; Reflets sur le Rhône ; Lyon la cendrée ; Lyon de mon coeur ; etc.), la gastronomie (Des vins de Henry IV à ceux de Brillat-Savarin ; De Courteline à Curnonsky ; Quand la soif s'apaise ; Cinquante ans à table ; etc.) ; il évoque la période de l'Occupation pendant laquelle il sera arrêté par la Gestapo et remis en liberté, et son action dans la Résistance dans "Au temps des pruneaux" ; ayant pris le parti de l'humour et quelquefois de la truculence, il publia aussi de nombreux romans dont l'intérêt est très inégal ; c'est lui aussi qui lança Frédéric Dard dans la carrière littéraire. Son oeuvre majeure reste "Le Charcutier de Machonville" qui se déroule à Neuville sur Saône, au nord de Lyon. ‎
