‎Van 5 juni tot en met 15 november 2009 loopt in de Onze-Lieve-Kathedraal Antwerpen de tentoonstelling REUNIE. Van Quinten Metsijs tot Peter Paul Rubens. Meesterwerken uit het Koninklijk Museum terug in de Kathedraal. De tentoonstelling staat onder de Hoge Bescherming van Hare Majesteit de Koningin. 1559 was het oprichtingsjaar van het bisdom Antwerpen. 450 jaar geleden werd de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk omgedoopt tot de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal. Een verjaardag om te vieren met een prestigieuze tentoonstelling! In haar 450-jarig bestaan groeide de Kathedraal uit tot een ware schatkamer van religieuze kunst, geschilderd en gebeeldhouwd door gereputeerde meesters. Ze sierden de zuilen, kapellen en wanden van de Kathedraal tot aan de Franse Revolutie. In de nasleep van deze omwenteling vonden heel wat altaarstukken onderdak in musea. Het Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen was er een van. De hechte samenwerking met het Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen maakt het mogelijk om acht van de mooiste altaarstukken uit de museumcollectie terug te brengen naar de Kathedraal. Naast deze werken stelt ook de Kathedraal er acht uit haar vaste collectie tentoon. Het gaat hier over veelal imposante werken, hoofdzakelijk triptieken van vaak wel 5m breed en 3m hoog die in het huidige kathedraalinterieur geintegreerd zullen worden. Deze unieke in situ' hereniging geeft de bezoeker een spectaculair overzicht van meesterwerken uit de Gouden Eeuw van de Antwerpse schilderschool. De curatoren, dr. Ria Fabri en dr. Nico Van Hout, geven aan de hand van de tentoongestelde altaarstukken een kijk op het toenmalige mecenaat door ambachten, gilden en broederschappen. Ze laten de bezoeker toe de verwevenheid van maatschappij, geloof, kunst en cultuur in de 16de en 17de eeuw te herontdekken en werpen een licht op de iconografische en socio-economische ontwikkelingen doorheen de eeuwen. Een begeleidende, rijk geillustreerde catalogus zal diverse kunsthistorische en historische bijdragen bundelen rond atelierpraktijken, opdrachtgevers, consumptiepatronen en het ambachtswezen. Gelijktijdig loopt er in het Rockoxhuis de tentoonstelling Godsgeschenk. Prive-mecenaat aan de Antwerpse kerken tijdens de 16de en 17de eeuw. Beide tentoonstellingen vullen elkaar mooi aan en getuigen van het rijke talent dat in Antwerpen aanwezig was en van het economisch belang ervan voor de stadsontwikkeling. ‎

‎First appearance of Drummond's paper in which he described his (and Goldsworthy Gurney's) invention and coined the word 'limelight'. His apparatus, demonstrated on the plate, was originally used for surveying as the title of the paper shows. Drummond claimed the light to be 83 times brighter than any previous artificial light.The Scottish engineer, Thomas Drummond (1797-1840), saw a demonstration of the effect by Michael Faraday and realized that the light would be useful for surveying. Drummond built a working version in 1826, and the device is sometimes called the Drummond Light after him. Limelight was first used in public in the Covent Garden Theatre in London in 1837 and enjoyed widespread use in theatres around the world in the 1860s and 1870s. Limelights were employed to highlight solo performers in the same manner as modern followspots (spotlights). Limelight was replaced by electric arc lighting in the late 19th century. ‎Philippe Sylvestre Dufour (vers 1622-1687) était un riche apothicaire lyonnais qui commerçait avec l'Orient. Erudit et collectionneur, il était en contact avec de nombreux savants et personnalités avec lesquels il entretint une abondante correspondance. Il s'exila en Suisse avec son ami le médecin Jacob Spon en 1685 (peu avant de temps avant la révocation de l'Edit de Nantes, lorsque l'exercice de la médicine fut interdit aux Protestants). On lui attribue la publication en 1671, à Lyon chez Girin et Barthélémy, de : "De l'usage du caphé, du thé et du chocolate", petit traité de 12ff. et 188 pages (Oberlé, Faste de Baccus, N°731). Notre abrégé pourrait bien être une adaptation de l'ouvrage de Dufour, même si la permission d'imprimée, accordée à E. Vitalis le 21 août 1681, ne fait pas mention d'auteur. Le titre du second traité apparait sous le nom d'auteur de Nicolas de Bonnefons dans "Les fastes de Baccus "d'Oberlé (N°614), réuni avec d'autres textes dans une édition grenobloise de 1692 sous le titre "Les plaisirs innocents et amoureux de la campagne..." . Cet ouvrage apparait ici dans sa très rare édition originale qui fut reprise en 1674 sous le titre "Instruction pour élever, nourrir, dresser, instruire & penser toutes sortes de petits oyseaux de volière, que l'on tient en cage pour entendre chanter. Avec un petit traitement de maladies des chiens", à Paris, chez Charles de Sercy (voir catalogue de la collection de Marcel Jeanson, vente, Sotheby's Monaco, 1er mars 1987, lot 395 ; et vente Bonhams, 22 octobre 2014, N°66). Il y est question du rossignol, du roitelet, du chardonneret, du pinçon, du canarie et de la linotte, des caponègres (fauvette à tête noire), des grives, alouettes et autres merles. ‎

‎Cet ouvrage traite des vertus curatives du café, du thé et du chocolat et sur la manière de les préparer. La partie sur le chocolat est une traduction de l’espagnol par le médecin parisien René Moreau (1587-1656) d’une relation de Antoine Colmenero de Ledesma. Philippe Sylvestre Dufour, né à Manosque en 1622 et mort à Vevey (Canton de Vaud) vers 1687 est un apothicaire, banquier, collectionneur et auteur protestant installé à Lyon. Il s'exila à Genève lorsque l'exercice des professions médicales fut interdit aux Protestants. Il fut l'un des plus riches apothicaires lyonnais par la fortune héritée de sa famille et par son commerce lucratif de drogues en provenance d'Orient. ‎First appearance of the paper which states the correct weight of the carbon atom. This research had profound influence on the development of organic chemistry. The paper in full was published the year after (1841) in ""Annales de Chimie et de Physique"".""From 1840 onward he carried out an important revision of the atomic weights of thirty elements. His most valuable contribution in this field was his very precise determination of the atomic weight of carbon (jointly with his pupil Stas) in 1840. A previously accepted weight, determined by Berzelius as C = 12.20 (O = 16), was shown to be incorrect. Dumas proved that C = 12±.002 (O = 16) or C = 75 (O = 100).
