‎First appearance of these 5 important papers in which Stark describes his researches on the effects of the electrical field on the spectral lines of hydrogen, thus discovering the splitting of the spectral lines, THE STARK-EFFECT. This effect was incorporated into quantum mexhanics by Paul Epstein in 1916, and it was shown to be consistent with wave mechanics by Schrödinger in 1926. In 1919 Stark was awarded the Nobel Prize for physics for his discovery of the Doppler effect in canal rays and of the splitting of spectral lines inan electric field (the papers offered). ""At the beginning of July 1913, several months before Stark’s discovery, Niels Bohr published his concept of a quantum-mechanical model of the atom. This provided, in principle, the possibility of understanding the reason for the Stark effect, which the classical theory was powerless to explain. Stark therefore had an opportunity to be doubly gratified, having also been one of the first, after Max Planck and Einstein, to stress the “fundamental significance” of Planck’s elementary law (since 1907). which he had championed in many polemical discussions. Yet, almost incomprehensibly, Stark denied himself the satisfaction of seeing his own experiments confirm a theory for which he had helped prepare the way conceptually, even if he had not directly participated in its creation. ‎First French printing of Stas's importent (first) paper in which he demonstrates the incommensurability of the atomic weights, proving that atomic weights are not whole numbers or multiples of halv or a quarter of the atomic weight of hydrogen.""Stas demonstrated that the values of the atomic weights he had determined were neither multiples of unity, nor of one half, as Marignac believed, nor of one quarter, as Dumas maintained. This publication led Marignac to doubt the universality of the law of definite proportions. In three papers collectively entitled ""Nouvelles recherches sur les lois des proportions chimiques, sur les poids atomiques et leurs rapports mutuels"" (1865), Stas presented the results of an extensive series of experiments devoted to the new demonstration. ‎The scarce first edition of the work in which Steenstrup describes his discovery of the principle of 'ALTERNATION OF GENERATIONS'', sexual and asexual in plants and animals. Edition originale. C'est Paul Arbelet, qui en 1923, attribue la paternité de ce texte à Stendhal. Après un gros travail de recherche, dû à Sandra Teroni et Hélène de Jacquelot, il est permis de savoir quelle est la part prise par Stendhal dans cet ouvrage qui est à la fois une monographie sur Raphaël et un manuel d'apprentissage à la vision du tableau. Travail de symbiose, Stendhal se greffe sur l'écriture de Constantin. Rédigées entre 1835 et 1837, les dix-sept notices sur les tableaux que le peintre sur porcelaine avait copié afin de faire des émaux, seront le début du texte. Puis Stendhal encouragera son ami à élargir son propos, en évoquant les palais, les églises de Rome, et les plus beaux tableaux. C'est lui qui propose le titre; c'est encore Stendhal qui se livre à un important travail de rédaction et de révision — il réécrit parfois complètement et rédige des passages voire des chapitres entiers. Il veille à la mise au net, à la présentation typographique, aux titres courants, mais aussi à l’articulation du texte (il s’est chargé de répartir la matière en chapitres), texte qu’il complète sur épreuve et jusqu’au stade du manuscrit final, car c’est encore lui qui signe les « bons à tirer ». After a great research work, due to Sandra Teroni and Hélène de Jacquelot, it is possible to know what part Stendhal plays in this work which is both a monograph on Raphael and a learning manual to read the paintings. Work of symbiosis, Stendhal is added on the writing of Constantin. Written between 1835 and 1837, the seventeen explanatory leaflets on the paintings that the painter on porcelain had copied in order to make enamels, will be the beginning of the text. Then Stendhal will encourage his friend to broaden his words, by evoking the palaces, the churches of Rome, and the most beautiful paintings.
