‎Weinig Belgische architecten hebben zo'n markant en verscheiden oeuvre nagelaten als Leon Stynen (1899-1990). Meer dan vijftig jaar lang, van de vroege jaren 1920 tot aan het einde van zijn professionele loopbaan in 1977, was hij actief als architect, stedenbouwkundige en designer. Hij was over het hele land werkzaam, met een grote voorliefde voor zijn geboortestad Antwerpen. Zijn faam dankt hij niet alleen aan zijn oeuvre, maar ook aan zijn rol in het onderwijs en aan zijn engagementen in talrijke belangenverenigingen en socio-culturele organisaties. In alle publicaties over de Belgische architectuurgeschiedenis staat Stynen vermeld als een van de toonaangevende architecten van zijn generatie. Enkele sleutelwerken van het modernisme in Belgie staan op zijn naam.
