This new body of work by Dirk Zoete has particularly seduced me, as the vegetal world?and flowers in particular?appeals to me a lot. It delights me to bundle this work in a FIFTY ONE Publication. Dirk has created these imaginary botanical creatures that he clusters into ?cactus derivatives.? One can discern characters, phalluses, female genitals, fairground amusements, and so much more in these genuine shapes, depending on one?s mindset. Or could we read them as his own ?fleurs du mal??

In this 2nd volume on cactus derivatives and plant drawings, Dirk Zoete continues his imaginary botanical journey. While some shapes and forms are reminiscent of the first part of this series, the use of color is notably different, with some shades appearing more intense. Zoete also focuses more on the background, creating an even more dreamlike universe, with a sense of depth and dimensionality that feels like an extra sensory playground.

This series of extremely touching, candid, sensual and delicate nudes of Leiter?s friends and lovers ? Jay, Fay, Barbara and his great love, Soames ? show us how the artist succeeded in balancing between eroticism and something close to the distinct dreamy atmosphere that characterizes his colour work.

Saul Leiter has been digging in his archive and selected 34 unpublished color photographs for his fourth solo exhibition at Roger Szmulewicz's GALLERY FIFTY ONE, in Antwerp. The lyricism and intensity of his vision come into fullest play in his eloquent handling of color: to the rapid recording of the spontaneous unfolding of life on the street, Leiter adds an unconventional sense of form and a brilliantly improvisational, and frequently almost abstract, use of found colors and tones. Leiter?s visual language of fragmentation, ambiguity and contingency is evoked in Saul Leiter: Early Color by one hundred subtle, painterly images that stretched the boundaries of photography in the second half of the twentieth-century.

For the first time on a broad basis, the exhibition catalogue will show the work of Bruce Nauman and Auguste Rodin in parallel. Auguste Rodin (1840?1917) and Bruce Nauman (*1941) are separated by a century. However, they are closely connected by the fact that they both pursued an innovative and radical approach. They have radically changed not only artistic practice but also our general notion of art. Their artistic concerns and strategies are surprisingly close to one another.
