‎Het verborgen Mechelen komt in dit boek aan de oppervlakte aan de hand van foto?s van historische kelders en andere ondergrondse ruimten waar onze stad zo rijk aan is. Mechelen heeft, als middeleeuwse stad, tientallen gebouwen die ontstonden vanaf de 14de eeuw. De eeuw waarin de eerste stenen gebouwen verschenen. Eerder werden de huizen voornamelijk in hout opgetrokken. Het bouwen met stenen, voornamelijk baksteen, zandsteen en arduin, vergde omwille van het gewicht sterke funderingen. Te samen ontstonden ook de kelders waarvan er op heden nog heel wat bestaan. De kelders in dit boek bevinden zich allen ?intra muros?, binnen de stadmuren van weleer. Naast historische kelders schenkt het boek aandacht aan andere ondergrondse ruimten zoals tunnels. Tunnels die binnen enkele jaren voorgoed zullen verdwijnen en daarom in dit boek als herinnering vermeld worden. Verder wordt aandacht gegeven aan de grootste bouwwerf die Mechelen ooit gekend heeft, de nieuwe spoor- en wegverbinding over 2,5 km, die voor een groot deel ondergronds loopt.‎

‎Among the great names in the history of harpsichord making, that of the Ruckers is probably the most famous. This dynasty of makers, represented by four generations active in Antwerp between c.1580 and c.1680, exerted a predominant influence in Western Europe. Their harpsichords and virginals, synonyms of extraordinary workmanship, acquired a tremendous reputation that extended beyond European borders and lasted until well after their active period. The envy they inspired was such that it gave rise to large-scale counterfeiting, probably the most significant in the field of instrument making up to then. The MIM owns eighteen instruments considered at the time of their acquisition to be Ruckers. Given the considerable patrimonial interest of this collection, a project centred on its conservation, study, restoration and enhancement was set up. The present publication sums up this fascinating research and sheds new light on this outstanding heritage.‎
