Public outcry to the criticism of dissenting education in his 'Letter from a Country Divine' to his friend in London concerning the education of dissenters in their private academies (London, 1702) led Wesley to respond voraciously, firstly with this work, and then again in A Reply to Mr. Palmer's Vindication (1707).
