Summary During the Ancient Greek and Roman eras, participation in political communities at the local level, and assertion of belonging to these communities, were among the fundamental principles and values on which societies would rely. For that reason, citizenship and democracy are generally considered as concepts typical of the political experience of Classical Antiquity. These concepts of citizenship and democracy are often seen as inconsistent with the political, social, and ideological context of the late and post-Roman world. As a result, scholarship has largely overlooked participation in local political communities when it comes to the period between the disintegration of the Classical model of local citizenship in the later Roman Empire and the emergence of 'pre-communal' entities in Northern Italy from the ninth century onwards. By reassessing the period c. 300-1000 CE through the concepts of civic identity and civic participation, this volume will reassess both the impact of Classical heritage with regard to civic identities in the political experiences of the late and post-Roman world, and the rephrasing of new forms of social and political partnership according to ethnic or religious criteria in the early Middle Ages. Starting from the earlier imperial background, the fourteen chapters examine the ways in which people shared identity and gave shape to their communal life, as well as the role played by the people in local government in the later Roman Empire, the Germanic kingdoms, Byzantium, the early Islamic world, and the early medieval West. By focusing on the post-Classical, late antique, and early medieval periods, this volume intends to be an innovative contribution to the general history of citizenship and democracy. Summary The purpose of this volume is to explore, re-interpret and re-contextualise the various natures of practices performed by the Orthodox and Catholic pilgrims in Balkan countries in their devotional ?path to touch the sacred and holy? through the prism of pilgrimage contents, and their articulating, using, and handling strategies. Inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives constitute a strong point for exploring the essence of this collective practice of worship, which is theoretically and critically interpreted, and chronologically and diachronically analysed. Therefore, the various visions of the authors, formed on the basis of qualitative and critical analysis of primary (ethnographic and folkloric data from field interviews, archive documents, samples, etc.) and secondary sources, come to fill a gap in research on pilgrimage in southeast Europe, and especially on pilgrimage practices in Eastern Orthodoxy. Particularly, the ritual practices, sacred places in contemporary Balkan societies, religious folklore, divine intervention stories, miracle-working icons, relics and reliquaries as part of the structure of pilgrimage are discussed. The authors explore the context in which the Christian shrines in the Balkans are spaces where the ethnic and denominational patterns in pilgrimage are revealed openly on multiple levels; they delve into how the correlative effects between politics and religion are manifested. Paris imprimerie Royale 1791 Première édition. Bel exemplaire de cette liste des tarifs et droits à payer à la veille de la Révolution. Impressionnante liste alphabétique de produits ou marchandises avec, en regard, le montant de la taxe appliquée à l'entrée et à la sortie, en fonction de la quantité ou du poids. Aucune mention d'imprimeur ou d'éditeur. Il semble y avoir eu de nombreuses versions imprimées, en particulier par des imprimeurs régionaux. Vraisemblablement pour être distribuées dans tout le royaume. Nous n'avons pas pu trouver d'autre exemplaire avec la même vignette sur la première page. Feuilles volantes, non cousues. En bon état, propre, avec seulement une légère usure des bords et un léger noircissement. Il semble y avoir plusieurs paginations différentes pour les exemplaires de ce tarif. Notre exemplaire compte 35 pages et constitue une liste complète de A à Z. Il semble également exister un exemplaire de 44 pages, qui, selon nous, contient les tarifs applicables dans les colonies et les listes de marchandises interdites à l'exportation. 28 cm x 21,5 cm.
First edition. A nice copy of this list of tariffs and duties payable on the eve of the Revolution. An impressive alphabetical list of products or goods with, opposite, the amount of the tax applied upon entry and exit, according to the quantity or weight. No printed or publisher details. There appear to have been many versions of this printed, particularly by regional printers. Presumably for distribution throughout the kingdom. We have been unable to find another copy with the same vignette to the first page. Loose sheets, unsewn. In good, clean condition, with a touch of edgewear and darkening only. There seem to be several different paginations to copies of this tarif. Our copy has 35 pages, and is a complete A-Z list. It seems there is also a 44 page copy, we believe that this has tariffs applicable in the colonies, and lists of goods prohibited to export. 28cm x 21.5cm.
