Elle est ornée d'un très beau frontispice en couleurs et gommé, dessiné par Terrier et lithographié par Millot, de 9 planches en noir et plusieurs vignettes en noir dans le texte. Cet exemplaire est enrichi d'un envoi autographe signé "des auteurs" mais de la main de Rothschild à Jean Becquerel. Cet ouvrage est extrait du tome X de la neuvième série des "Annales des sciences naturelles, Zoologie". Il a été composé à la suite d'une expédition en Afrique orientale anglaise en 1904-1905 pendant lequel de nombreux spécimens furent rapportés au Muséum d'Histoire naturelle de Paris et donna lieu à la présente publication.
