‎Theo Van Rysselberghe (1862-1926) is one of the emblematic figures of Neo-Impressionism, together with Georges Seurat and Paul Signac. With his delicate touch, refined chromatic sense and great elegance, above all in his portraits, he produced some of the finest works of divisionism. Yet Van Rysselberghes oeuvre is not limited to the works of his Neo-Impressionist period (1888-96), even though it is for these that he is best known internationally. Distancing himself from the strict division of colours, he subsequently moved towards a more fluid style, though always retaining great luminosity. His portraits and female nudes, the landscapes he brought back from his numerous trips (Morocco, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands) reveal insatiable curiosity and immense talent, coupled with rare sensibility. This catalogue presents a large number of works shown for the first time in public. Theo van Rysselberghes fascinating and unusually extensive correspondence has served as a point of departure for a number of the contributions to this publication. ‎Meester van het italianiserende landschap. Nicolaes Berchem was een Haarlemse schilder. Hij behoorde tot de italianisanten, een groep kunstenaars die, aangetrokken door Italie, Italiaans aandoende landschappen op doek zetten. Landschappen in warm zonlicht, met bergen, ruines, herders en vee. Die zogenoemde italianiserende landschappen waren bijzonder populair in Nederland in de 17e en 18e eeuw, en er werd veel geld voor neergeteld. Berchem schilderde zijn op Italie geinspireerde landschappen vanaf het midden van de 17e eeuw. Zijn topstukken behoren tot het beste wat de Nederlandse landschapskunst van die tijd heeft voortgebracht. Zijn werk omspant een periode van veertig jaar en kent een grote verscheidenheid aan thema's, een snelle opeenvolging van stijlfasen en een uitzonderlijke virtuositeit. Berchem was niet alleen een veelzijdig schilder van italianiserende landschappen, hij schilderde ook mediterrane havengezichten, allegorieen, religieuze en mythologische voorstellingen en genreschilderingen. Zijn productie was enorm: meer dan 800 schilderijen zijn aan hem toegeschreven. Daarnaast was hij ook een zeer productief en veelzijdig tekenaar en etser. Bij de tentoonstelling die het Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, het Kunsthaus in Zurich en het Staatliches Museum Schwerin organiseren, brengt Ludion deze catalogus uit. Een prachtig boek, met alle afbeeldingen in kleur, dat een representatief beeld geeft van de verscheidenheid aan thema's en veranderingen van stijl in de schilderijen, tekeningen en prenten van Nicolaes Berchem. De tentoonstelling toont veertig schilderijen, dertig tekeningen en ongeveer dertig etsen. Boek is nieuw.‎
