Weil sein Bild fur den Salon von 1866 nicht rechtzeitig fertig wurde, malte Monet das lebensgrosse Portrait der 19-jahrigen Camille Doncieux in eleganter Robe und in einer aussergewohnlichen Pose und Sicht. Das Gemalde brachte ihm den ersten grossen Erfolg. Doch nicht nur Monet, sondern auch Malerkollegen wie Auguste Renoir, Edouard Manet, James Abbott McNeill Whistler und Edgar Degas setzten die Tradition des reprasentativen Frauenportraits in ihre Bildsprache um. Mit ihnen zog Modernitat in die Kunst ein, konnte Mode zum Thema der Malerei werden. Wie sehr dies den kunstlerischen Absichten entsprach, wird in der Ausstellung durch Originalkleider, Kupferstiche aus zeitgenossischen Modezeitschriften, Zeichnungen und Fotografien veranschaulicht. ‎This study establishes for the first time Adam Pynacker's place of origin, the formation and development of his style as well as his contribution to the field of Dutch Italianate landscape painting. Pynacker's early paintings, dating from around 1648, are shown to reinforce Houbraken's statement that he visited Italy during the second half of the 1640s. In an in depth study of the artist's output of the 1650s, it is also demonstrated that Pynacker was familiar with the work of his contemporary Dutch Italianates, among them Jan Both, Jan Asselyn and Nicolaes Berchem. ‎volume X; The History of Achilles is a series of tapestries first commissioned by Rubens's second father-in-law Daniel Fourment, a tapestry-dealer in Antwerp. Very probably it was also Daniel Fourment who asked his famous son-in-law to provide the preparatory oil sketches, modelli and cartoons for the series. This cycle is not a very big project compared with other famous series designed by Rubens. Nevertheless, as Begemann puts is, " the excellence of the oil sketches and the modelli, and the sophistication of the artist's interpretation of the subject, make the series stand out as a major work ". In very good condition.‎
