‎First edition. Pamphet. Disbound. Title, preface, a dedication to the Queen Regent (written by "the Maids of St Joseph") the text of the prerogatives. This is in fact an anti-catholic pamphlet from William Clagett. William Clagett (16461688) was an English clergyman and pamphleteer, particularly active during the reign of James II. As well as his own pamphlets, he would translate particularly colourful Continental Catholic material, with the aim of making the Catholics an object of ridicule. This is one of those pieces. A nice copy of this pamphlet. Apart from a a few slight marks, the pamphlet is clean and crisp throughout and well bound together.[ii] i-xv, [i], [vi], 1-20. pp. WING A108.‎

‎Pamphlet, disbound. Title, preface, text in three sections (as per title) postscript. The title is nearly detached, the text is clean and crisp throughout. The text block has been cut at an angle to the base (not affecting text). In this pamphlet, Hill argues that an Apostolic succession is essential for the continuance of Orthodox doctrine. vi, 136 pp. Wing H2006.‎

‎France S.P. C1895 Une jolie aquarelle, partiellement achevée, très dans le style de Charles Léandre. Non signée, cette uvre semble être une composition inachevée destinée à un magazine tel que « Le Rire » ou « L'Assiette au Beurre ». Une femme assise sur une chaise de réalisateur s'adresse à un homme détendu, vêtu d'un costume de la fin du XIXe siècle, coiffé d'un canotier et arborant une moustache imposante. La partie peinte est très travaillée et semble achevée. Ce qui est curieux, c'est que l'esquisse au crayon montre une autre femme, debout de l'autre côté de l'homme, qui lui tape sur l'épaule. Seule sa main a été encrée. Il est tentant de penser que l'ombre de la femme a été laissée intentionnellement fantomatique, comme la conscience de l'homme lui rappelant sa femme. Ce qui contredit cette hypothèse, c'est que le « fantôme » est au crayon (ce qui n'aurait pas été reproduit dans une publication prévue). De plus, le pied gauche de l'homme n'est également dessiné qu'au crayon. Tout bien considéré, il s'agit donc d'une caricature inachevée. Il n'en reste pas moins un fabuleux dessin fin de siècle. Sur papier d'art, avec quelques petites entailles sur les bords et un léger noircissement. Un seul pli au centre, là où la feuille a été pliée. 30 cm x 22 cm.‎

‎A lovely water colour, partly finished, very much in the style of Charles Léandre. Unsigned, this work appears to be an incomplete composition for a magazine such as "Le Rire" or "L'Assiette au Beurre." A worman on a director's chair, is speaking to a relaxed gentleman, in late nineteenth century dress, wearing a straw boater and with an outsized moustache. The painted area is highly skilled, and appears to be finished. What is curious, is that the pencil sketch shows another woman, stood to the other side of the man, and tapping him on the shoulder. Only her hand has been inked in. It is tempting to think that the shadow of the woman is left intentionally ghost like, as the man's conscience reminding him of his wife. What argues against this, is that the "ghost" is in pencil (which wouldn't have reproduced in any intended publication). Also, the man's left foot is also only in pencil. So on balance, this is an unfinished caricature. Still a fabulous fin de siecle drawing. On art paper, with a little nicking to the edges and slight darkening. A single fold to the centre where the sheet has been folded. 30cm x 22cm. .‎

‎Paris Chez Martinet 1820 Un bel exemplaire de cette caricature rare. Elle n'est pas signée, mais les initiales LL. sont imprimées en bas à droite de la planche. Nous n'avons pas trouvé de caricaturiste portant ces initiales (Leander signait toujours ses uvres). Un monsieur s'incline devant un couple qui s'approche de lui. La dame incline son ombrelle. Tous sont habillés en dandys. Jolie mise en couleur à la main. En bas à gauche du pâté, il est écrit à l'encre Chez Martinet. Impression propre, avec juste un peu de marquage / assombrissement sur la feuille. Elle est collée sur un morceau de carte rigide un peu plus grand. Un très bel objet. La plaque mesure 32 cm x 24 cm. La carte de support mesure 35,5 cm x 30 cm.‎

‎A lovely copy of this scarce cartoon. Unsigned, but the initials LL. are printed to the lower right of the plate. We are unable to find a caricaturist with those initials (Leander always signed his work). A gentleman is bowing to a couple approaching him. The lady tips her parasol. All are dressed as dandies. Attractive hand colouring. To the bottom left of the pate, it is written in ink "Chez Martinet". A clean print, with just a little marking / darkening to the sheet. Tipped onto a slightly larger piece of stiff card. A very nice item. Plate is 32cm x 24cm. The backing card is 35.5cm x 30cm. First edition. .‎
