‎The paintings that Rubens devoted to the theme of the youth of Christ are among the most impressive and influential examples of art that expressed Roman Catholic spirituality as reasserted at the Council of Trent. The vast majority of these works are his numerous images of the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Adoration of the Magi. The oldest sources for these and other scenes from Christ's youth are of course the accounts of the Gospels, but these were usefully completed by several supplementary descriptions, more especially the Apocrypha, patristic literature, and the pious legends woven around the birth of Christ in the course of the Middle Ages. In his interpretations of the scenes from Christ's youth, Rubens built to a large extent on a pictorial tradition that had developed in the Low Countries and Italy in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, in which mediaeval views and patterns originating from Northern Europe had merged with those of the Italian Renaissance. ‎vers 1739 ; in-4, en feuilles dans une chemise en cartonnage ancien. 128 ff. non chiffrés et 3 ff. blancs.Jacques-Joseph Duguet (Montbrison 1649 - Paris 1733) est un théologien janséniste. Il entre dans le congrégation de l’Oratoire en 1667 et est ordonné prêtre en 1677. Mis à l’écart alors que la querelle janséniste secouait sa congrégation, il est envoyé à Strasbourg, il quitte finalement sa congrégation en 1685 pour se rendre à Bruxelles avec Quesnel et Arnauld. Sorti de la clandestinité en 1690 il continuera de subir des persécutions en tant qu’opposant à la bulle Unigenitus, se réfugiant un temps en Savoie où il a écrit son Institution d’un prince à l’intention du duc héritier. Il est partisan d’un jansénisme modéré, s’opposant aux Nouvelles ecclésiastiques et aux convulsions. Il est l’auteur d’un grand nombre d’ouvrages de théologie et de morale. Manuscrit en français soigneusement calligraphié sur des feuillets réglés à l’encre rouge.
