‎ Sotheby & Co 1967 4to (25 cm), 58 pp. Publisher's boards. The sale catalogue of a collection of 23 Armenian Gospel manuscripts, one the most important sale of this nature hitherto. Two manuscripts (lot 1 and 2) were illuminated by Thoros Roslin, the most celebrated of 13th century Cilician Armenian artists. Lot 7 is chef-d'oeuvre illuminated by Martiros (16th century). Many of the colophons refer to events in the history of the Middle East, in which Armenians were involved, including the campaigns of Baibars (lot 2 and 3) and the Turco-Polish wars of the 17th century. All the bindings, none of which appears to be later than the 18th century, are of silver or silver gilt. ‎

‎Les 5.276 lots de cette très importante bibliothèque furent vendus au cours de 4 vacations en 1894, du 29 janvier au 3 février (675 lot), du 5 au 17 mars (1485 lots), du 16 au 26 avril 1894 (1.126 lots), une vente de doubles eut lieu du 4 au 16 mars 1895 (2.010 lots). Les prix obtenus sont relevés à la plume en marge.Raoul-Léonor L’Homme Dieu du Tranchant de Lignerolles (1816-1893), célibataire, homme discret et malgré des ressources limitées était arrivé à composer l’une des bibliothèques les plus remarquables qui aient été formées à Paris dans la seconde moitié du xixe siècle : 35 manuscrits, tous les livres de Théologie et ceux des Sciences et des Arts. La classe des Livres d’Heures est particulièrement riche : on remarque la plupart des éditions de Simon Vostre, de Philippe Pigouchet, de Thielman Kerver, d’Antoine Vérard, etc., en exemplaires parfaits. Il y a toutes les éditions originales de Bossuet en maroquin de l’époque. Montaigne, La Rochefoucauld, La Bruyère, etc. Les plus précieux parmi les livres de chasse et de cuisine sont présents. Des exemplaires de provenances illustres : royales (François Ier, Henri III, Henri IV, Louis XIII et Anne d’Autriche, etc.), amateurs (Maioli, De Thou, Fresnoy, Longepierre, Chamillart, etc.), auteurs (un Montaigne de 1588, dans sa reliure primitive en vélin blanc, avec un long envoi autographe). Des reliures de Padeloup pour le comte d’Hoym, de Le Gascon pour le chancelier Séguier, une des 22 reliures à mosaïques composées par Trautz-Bauzonnet, etc. un Catulle de Grolier en maroquin rouge, un maroquin noir où s’étale l’emblème de Demetrius Canevarius (Apollon sur son char gravissant le Parnasse), un maroquin bleu avec les insignes de Longepierre, l’édition originale des Amours de Psyché et Cupidon de La Fontaine aux armes du comte d’Hoym, plusieurs volumes en maroquin doublé de Boyet ayant à l’intérieur les armes de madame de Chamillart ; l’édition originale de L’École des femmes de Molière (1663) aux armes d’Anne d’Autriche. Des éditions anciennes de Rabelais (Pantagruel, Lyon, François Juste, 1534), plusieurs éditions précieuses de Marot (celle de 1545, dite du Rocher, en maroquin doublé, avec les armes du Dauphin au bas du dos). Le « grand siècle », époque de prédilection de Lignerolles : la collection complète des pièces de théâtre de Molière en éditions originales, toutes les éditions collectives, y compris celle de 1673 aux armes de Colbert. Des reliures aux armes de Charles IX, de Henri III, de Henri IV, de Marie de Médicis, de Louis XII et Anne d’Autriche, etc. Des exemplaires provenant des bibliothèques du comte d’Hoym, de Longepierre, de Jacques-Auguste de Thou, etc. Des reliures de Boyet, de Padeloup, de Derome, etc. Surtout, des exemplaires souvent uniques d’écrits imprimés sur François Ier et les événements de son règne. ‎
