Contents: On the mountains and deserts of the world. Chapter IX being on Mont Blanc, p. 92-109, with one engraved plate of the Aiguilles overlooking the Mer de Glace, and one of an Ascent (seemingly taken from Barry’s account). The text is taken from Saussure, Balmat, Paccard & Hamel. A fine Victorian juvenile which includes Mauritius, the Andes, Everest, Iceland, the Sahara, Spitsbergen and Usedom. Not in Perret. By the famous mountain painter Elijah Walton, author of the superbe illustrated alpine book ‘The peaks and valleys of the Alpes’ published the same year. The ‘Flowers...’ is a most charming work with 12 full page chromolithographs, representing beautiful alpine flowers, with appropriate landscape backgrounds of peaks, rocks or glaciers. Pure shaped, delicate, and transparent in colour, with tints admirably blended by gradations almost as fine as wrought by hand.With commentary by the English geologist Thomas George Bonney (1833-1923), another great alpinist and naturalist at the time. Es ist bekannt für seine malerische Landschaft aus Wäldern, Wiesen und Bergen sowie als Geburtsort des Freiheitskämpfers Andreas Hofer. Nicht bei Perret.
