‎Recueil des fables dEsope, publié en 1760. Ecrivain grec, Esope est crédité d'un certain nombre de fables populaires. Les orthographes plus anciennes de son nom ont inclus Esop (e) et Isope. Bien que son existence demeure incertaine et qu'aucun de ses écrits ne subsiste, de nombreux récits lui ont été attribués à travers les siècles et dans de nombreuses langues dans une tradition narrative qui perdure jusqu'à nos jours. Dans beaucoup de contes, les animaux parlent et ont des caractéristiques humaines. Une uvre littéraire ancienne appelée « The Aesop Romance » raconte une version épisodique et probablement hautement fictive de sa vie, où il est décrit comme étant un esclave étonnamment laid qui par son habileté acquiert la liberté et devient un conseiller aux rois et aux cités-États. Une tradition postérieure (datant du Moyen Age) dépeint Aesop comme éthiopien noir. Cet ouvrage recueil les fables qui lui sont attribuées et a pour vocation de « promouvoir la morale religieuse et la bienveillance universelle », lensemble étant illustré de 25 planches. His existence remains uncertain and none of his writings remains, many stories have been attributed to him throughout the centuries and in many languages in a narrative tradition that continues to this day. In many fairy tales, animals speak and have human characteristics. An ancient literary work called "The Aesop Romance" tells an episodic and probably highly fictional version of his life, where he is described as a surprisingly ugly slave who by his skill acquires freedom and becomes an advisor to kings and city-states . A later tradition (dating from the Middle Ages) portrays Aesop as black Ethiopian. This book collects the fables attributed to him and aims to "promote religious morality and universal benevolence", all illustrated by 25 plates.‎

All pages printed (with illustration or text) to one side only. Contains 24 full page chromolithographed illustrations. 270 by 235mm (10Ÿ by 9Œ inches).‎

The guidebook to this Labyrinth was first published in Paris 1677; written by Charles Perrault, it was illustrated with engravings by Sébastian Le Clerc.The garden was designed by Le Nôtre and for the 39 lead fountains in the form of animals, nicely rendered here in copper engravings, he was inspired by Aesop's Fables. The fountains were installed in 1672 and were considered among Le Nôtre's most original designs. This copy is an ORIGINAL EDITION , printed in London in 1768.."‎
