The first cover is decorated with a bird perched on its white and spreading its wings and decorated with an earring. All in an art nouveau style frame taking up almost the entire cover with magnificent typographic compositions all in capitals. The second cover is decorated with a small gold scarab. Inside cover and white endpapers. 25 color compositions by Edward J. Detmold glued in a bowl including two additional plates not found in the commercial edition. Original edition limited to 750 copies signed and numbered by the artist. Here N°30. Le premier plat est orné d’un volatile perché sur sa blanche et déployant ses ailes et orné d’une auréole. Le tout dans un encadrement de style art nouveau prenant la presque totalité du plat avec de magnifiques compositions typographiques tout en capitale. Le second plat est orné d’un petit scarabée en or. Contreplat et gardes blanches. 25 compositions en couleur d'Edward J. Detmold collées dans une cuvette dont deux planches supplémentaires non trouvées dans l'édition commerciale. Édition originale limitée à 750 exemplaires signées et numérotés par l’artiste. Ici N°30. État : Reliure frottée et usée avec taches.‎

Reliure en maroquin rouge à gros grains. Dos à cinq nerfs avec titre en capitales dorées et fleurons aux entre-nerfs. Double encadrement des plats ornés de fers à la couronne royale britannique aux angles de lencadrement intérieur. Titre en capitales dorées au centre du plat sup. Agrémenté dune abeille, dun corbeau et dun dauphin. Roulette végétale aux chasses. Gardes recouvertes de papier marbré. Provenance: comte Dudley. Toute tranches dorées. Quelques traces de frottement aux gouttières et aux coiffes. Rousseurs aux portrait de Bewick sinon papier parfaitement propre. Solide reliure parlante. ‎

Walter Crane (1845-1915) était un artiste et illustrateur de livres anglais. Il est considéré comme le créateur de livres pour enfants le plus influent et parmi les plus prolifiques de sa génération. Il faisait partie du mouvement Arts and Crafts. ‎

Faden for the author, 1768, in-4°, engraved frontispiece + engraved title-page + typographical title + (20)nn pp + (8)(numbered iii-ix) + (2) nn pp + 260 pp + 50 engraved plates (including the frontispiece and 6 vignettes printed in the text. (Bound with) Tales and Fables...by Fenelon ; (8)nnpp (with 2 vignettes) +86 pp with 27 engraved vignettes (complete). Uncut copy bound in contemporary full calf with raised gilt back (rebacked, blank fly-leaves and title label renewed). Some sparse stains, some slight browning at some pages but still a fine copy. Loosely inserted is the subscription prospectus (with one corner torn). The plates in the first part illustrate the Versailles labyrinth. The guidebook to this Labyrinth was first published in Paris 1677; written by Charles Perrault, it was illustrated with engravings by Sébastian Le Clerc.The garden was designed by Le Nôtre and for the 39 lead fountains in the form of animals, nicely rendered here in copper engravings, he was inspired by Aesop's Fables. The fountains were installed in 1672 and were considered among Le Nôtre's most original designs. This copy is an ORIGINAL EDITION , printed in London in 1768.."‎
