Thomas Bayrle, born in 1937 in Berlin, has always been fascinated by Mao's China. As a young man, he saw photographs of stadium-wide choreographed events where participants held up signs on command, creating a giant picture. Inspired by this mass choreography, Bayrle replicated it in his early moving figurines, mixing Communist and capitalist elements. He says, "These ideological opposites become more similar and blurred, like the global rock 'n' roll today." This volume showcases Bayrle's prescient globalism through bright graphic works featuring repeating soldiers, Maos, chairs, and chickens in old-school silkscreen and recent digitized photographs. The softcover binding wraps all sides of the book, and pages are printed at full bleed, except for the interview section.
