"L'importance soudaine que prend Caen à partir du rège de Guillaume le Conquérant a longtemps occulté le très ancien passé de la Ville. Le nom ce Caen apparaît pour la première fois dans un texte en 1025, ce document fait état d'une agglomération déjà constituée. l'occupation du sol à l'époque gallo-romaine est maintenant certaine, de même durant le haut moyen âge. Il apparaît maintenant comme hautement probable que le site de Caen ait été habité depuis le néolithique."
