‎ Première édition de ce beau livre de fêtes illustré de 16 planches, presque toutes dépliantes et de grand format. Une description du cortège de la "jeunesse des écoles latines sous la direction des prêtres de la Congrégation de l'Oratoire", organisé en juin 1775 à l'occasion de la cérémonie célébrant saint Rumbold, moine irlandais qui évangélisa Malines au VIIIe siècle et devint le saint patron de la ville. Les plus belles planches montrent des chars spectaculaires tirés par trois paires de chevaux ; elles sont imprimés sur deux feuillets in-folio. Au nombre de dix, chacune représente un épisode de la vie de Saint Rombaut. Exemplaire identique à celui de l' Institut national dhistoire de l'art. Ce dernier contient aussi une dédicace aux magistrats de Malines en latin, de 4 pages. De format in-quarto, elle sont ajoutée et issues d'une autre édition de cet ouvrage publiée sous le titre de "Train triomphal orne? de cavalcades", qui est de format in-quarto. Planches grave?es par de la Rue, Klauber et Campenhoudt d'apre?s des dessins de Herreyns et Suetens. La collection de Ruggieri possédait un exemplaire avec seulement 15 planches. Le dernier d'une longue lignée d'artificiers fondée en 1730, Ruggieri avait constitué une immense collection de livres de fêtes. (son catalogue n° 1116). Provenance : Exlibris armorié d'Alfred Merlin d'Estreux de Beaugrenier (1832-1906) qui a été maire de Valenciennes. Petite réparation au bas d'une planche. (Reliure du XIXe.) //// First edition of this beautiful festival book, illustrated with 16 plates, almost all of which are large-format fold-outs. A description of the procession of the youth of the Latin schools under the direction of the priests of the Congregation of the Oratory, organized in June 1775 on the occasion of the ceremony celebrating Saint Rumbold, an Irish monk who evangelized Mechelen in the 8th century and became the citys patron saint. The most beautiful plates depict spectacular chariots drawn by three pairs of horses; they are printed on two folio-sized sheets. There are ten of them, each representing an episode from the life of Saint Rumbold. This copy is identical to the one held by the Institut national dhistoire de l'art. The latter also contains a four-page dedication to the magistrates of Mechelen in Latin. In quarto format, they were added and taken from another edition of this work published under the title Train triomphal orné de cavalcades, which is in quarto format. Plates engraved by de la Rue, Klauber, and Campenhoudt after drawings by Herreyns and Suetens. The Ruggieri collection held a copy containing only 15 plates. The last in a long line of pyrotechnicians dating back to 1730, Ruggieri had amassed a vast collection of books on festivities. (catalog no. 1116). Provenance: Armorial bookplate of Alfred Merlin d'Estreux de Beaugrenier (18321906), who served as mayor of Valenciennes. Minor repair at the bottom of one plate. Bound in a later half cloth binding, pp.3/4 loose, title page with some thumbing. With the printed ex-libris of the Mechelen printer Willy Godenne. Rare court judgement of a lawsuit between the municipal authorities of Mechelen and the Roman Catholic church on the procedures and costs of funerals. A funeral was obviously a very complicated and strictly regulated business in the 17th c. Roman Catholic Netherlands. The document ends with a new regulation ( 12 pp !) stipulating at least 5 classes of funerals. A 1st class funeral involves the payment of 45 ( ! ) different invoices for 45 different funeral activities.‎
