Lorenz a étudié les comportements des animaux sauvages et domestiques. Il a écrit des livres qui ont touché un large public tels que Il parlait avec les mammifères, les oiseaux et les poissons ou L'Agression, une histoire naturelle du mal. - Paradoxalement, l'opinion de Lorenz sur la nécessité de la comparaison inter-espèce, d'utiliser l'isolation et, d'une manière plus générale, de considérer comme fondamentale la question de déterminer la part de l'inné et de lacquis dans l'étude du comportement, fut rejetée lors de la formation de l'éthologie mondiale naissante. Finalement, cette approche s'introduisit par la grande porte : l'étude de l'Homme. Après la publication de l'Agression en 1963, qui connut un succès retentissant, apparurent les premiers travaux scientifiques et ouvrages destinés au grand public écrits par des primatologues et anthropologues utilisant l'approche objective comparée promue par Lorenz. Notons l'Impératif territorial de Robert Ardrey, le Singe nu de Desmond Morris (que Lorenz critiqua car mettant trop l'accent sur la bestialité humaine) et l'Animal Impérial de Robin Fox et Lionel Tiger (dont Lorenz écrivit la préface). Le prix Nobel de 1973 allait consacrer la prise de position de Lorenz sur cette question ; le prix Nobel de physiologie ou médecine n'était pas remis à des zoologistes : c'était par définition impossible, mais bien à des physiologistes ayant à leur tête un médecin. Il couronnait la définition de Lorenz du comportement animal comme étant une fonction physiologique constituée de ses propres organes et que cette étude peut avoir des applications importantes chez l'homme et se rattache ainsi, potentiellement, à la médecine. - Le professeur Hochstetter considéra Lorenz comme un pionnier de l'application de ses propres méthodes à un nouveau domaine. Ce fait est également rapporté par Lorenz lui-même dans plusieurs de ses livres. L'idée principale consiste à appliquer les méthodes de l'anatomie comparative, développées par Hochstetter, à l'analyse du comportement animal. Chaque espèce animale développe une gamme propre de comportements individuels ou sociaux. Pour l'éthologue, la connaissance du comportement animal débute par sa description, cependant, cette connaissance doit s'enrichir par des tentatives visant à expliquer le comportement. On appelle éthogramme l'ensemble des formes stables de comportement recensées dans une espèce animale. ‎First printing of these two fundamental papers, revealing a lasting result in the history of physics, as both authors INDEPENDENTLY OF EACH OTHER, discovered the mathematical formula for the dependence of refraction of light upon specific gravity. It is very interesting that they found the formula - now called the Lorenz-Lorentz Equation or Formula - with altogether different ways and methods. They both discovered the formula before 1880, L.V. Here Lorenz established the method for absolute ohm determination by means of the elctromotive force and the geometrical dimensions of his apparatus. The paper was immideately translated into German and published the same year in Annalen der Physik und Chemie.Lorenz is well known for his achievements in optics, the formula for dependence of refraction upon specific gravity (the Lorentz-Lorenz formula), and his electromagnetic theory of light, developed in a relatively unknown paper of 1867, two years after Maxwell’s famous paper on the same subject.‎

‎Extremely scarce first edition of the paper in which Lorenz, independent of Maxwell, stated that light is electromechanical in nature, probably inspired by his former teacher H. C. Oersted, the discoverer of electromagnetism and professor at the Polytechnic College, he aimed at unifying the forces of nature without introducing new physical hypotheses. ""The idea that the various forces in nature are merely different manifestations of the one and same force has proved itself more fertile than all physical theories"".Most impressive of all Lorenz’ achievements in optics is his electromagnetic theory of light, developed in a relatively unknown paper of 1867, two years after Maxwell’s famous paper on the same subject. At that time Lorenz did not know Maxwell’s theory, and his own approach was quite different. Lorenz’ electromagnetic theory of light can be described briefly as an interpretation of the light vector as the current density vector in a medium obeying Ohm’s law. This paper contains the fundamental equations for the vector potential and the scalar potential or - for the first time - the corresponding retarded potentials expressed in terms of the current density vector and the electrical charge density. The concept of retarded potentials had already been introduced in an earlier paper by Lorenz in connection with research on the theory of elasticity. He found that the differential equation for the current density vector was the same as his fundamental wave equation for the light vector, completed with a term which explains the absorption of light in conducting media, and that his theory led to the correct value for the velocity of light."" ‎Maîtresse de Fidel Castro à 19 ans, et ex-agent double, Marita Lorenz, la Mata Hari des Caraïbes, a vécu une vie incroyable entre amour fou et espionnage. — Il est des vies qui semblent des romans. Celle de Marita Lorenz, tout particulièrement. Née à Brême en 1939 d'une Américaine et d'un Allemand, Marita est emprisonnée au camp de Bergen-Belsen où elle ne survit que par miracle. Libérée par les Américains, elle est victime d'un viol à l'âge de sept ans. Dès lors, elle tente de fuir la réalité en embarquant sur les paquebots que commande son père, le capitaine Heinrich Lorenz. En 1959, lors d'une escale à La Havane, Fidel Castro, jeune chef de la révolution cubaine, monte à bord du “Berlin”. C'est le coup de foudre. Mais le capitaine refuse de lui accorder la main de sa fille. Celle-ci s'enfuit et devient la compagne du “lider maximo”, dont elle attend bientôt un enfant... Des événements tragiques l'obligent pourtant à regagner seule les États-Unis. Marita est aussitôt enrôlée par la CIA qui, après lui avoir fait subir un lavage de cerveau, la convainc d'accomplir une mission ultrasecrète : retourner à Cuba et empoisonner Castro.
