‎Nice copy. The International House of Japan Library (est. 1953) is a library for Japanese Studies. The International House of Japan (IHJ) was set in 1952 as a non-profit oranization, to foster cultural exchanges between Japan and other countries. Nowadays, it has become a Public Interest Foundation. It is located in the Minato district, Tokyo. ‎

‎"Point n'est besoin d'insister sur l'intérêt de premier ordre que présente cette publication. Le colonel House, l'ami, le confident, souvent aussi le conseiller du Président Wilson, a été, pendant la Grande Guerre, en relation avec la plupart des personnages marquants d'Europe et d'Amérique. Du jour où les Etats-Unis ont pris à la lutte contre les Empires Centraux une part active, l'importance de son rôle s'est trouvée encore accrue et précisément ce volume se rapporte à cette période allant du 2 avril 1917 au mois de juin 1918 où, avec l'aide matérielle largement accordée par le gouvernement, les financiers et les industriels américains, et le concours de plus en plus efficace des troupes américaines, la France, l'Angleterre et l'Italie tentent d'abord sans succès de libérer les régions envahies, puis résistent aux grandes offensives austro-allemandes marquées par le désastre italien de Caporetto, la rupture du front anglais dans le nord de la France, le recul des armées françaises depuis le Chemin-des-Dames jusqu'à la Marne. En même temps que se poursuivait la guerre meurtrière, les hommes d'Etat, loin des champs de bataille, livraient aussi des combats qui, pour n'être pas sanglants, n'en devaient pas moins avoir, pour toutes les nations d'Europe, les conséquences les plus graves. Le colonel House était, si l'on peut dire, au centre de ces discussions. Il tenait un journal, rédigeait des notes, écrivait, recevait force lettres et de tous ses papiers conservés à l'Université de Yale, M. Charles Seymour, après s'en être servi pour composer son ouvrage sous forme de récit continu, a publié les plus significatifs. La traduction en français de ce livre capital s'imposait." (Ch. ‎A nice copy of this first edition. Bound in (probably) 1960's half brown leather with gilt titles and with light brown buckram boards. A touch of rubbing only, otherwise in excellent condition. Internally clean and tidy with a touch of darkening only. To the inside board is the bookplate of the Writers Library in London. Despite its name, this library belonged to the Jesuit Mission in London and the bookplate bears their insignia. No other library marks. [xiv], 466 pages. 180 by 105mm (7 by 4Œ inches).‎
