Civile Conversation du Seigneur Estienne Guazzo Gentilhomme Monferradois, divisee en quatre livres. Au premier sont côtenus en general tous les fruicts qu'ô recueille de la Conversation. Au second est discouru comme toutes personnes de quelques estats ou condition quelles soiêt doyvent côverser hors leurs maisons en general, & en particulier. Au troisiesme sont declarez en particulier les moyens qu'il faut garder en la Conversation domestique. Au quatriesme est representee la Conversation Civile, avec & par l'exêple d'un festin & banquet à Cafal, & y sont introduits dix personnages discourans au convive. Deuxième édition de la traduction française de François de Belleforest (1530-1583) imprimée une première fois en 1579, avec la dédicace à Charles de Neuville, datée de Paris le 6 août 1579. La table fut établie par Pierre Moreau Tourangeau. Stefano Guazzo (1530-1593), diplomate au service des Gonzague, fondateur à Casale de l'Accademia degli Illustrati reste fameux pour ce manuel de savoir-vivre publié une première fois à Brescia en 1574.Note manuscrite à l'encre du temps sur le titre : acheté à Tours 1614 Dredey. Bel exemplaire dans une reliure en maroquin janséniste signée Noulhac. Brunet II, 1781 ; Baudrier III, 426.

Amberg, M. Forster, 1598. 12mo. In contemporary full calf with four raised bands and gilt ruled fillets to boards. Wear to extremities, edges of boards with loss of leather. Inner front hinge split. Annotations in contemporary hand to front free end paper: ""Abrahamg Golnitius possidet me Anno 1612"" — likely referring to the Danzig travel writer Abraham Gollnitz. Pp. 556–589 feature underlining and numerous neat marginal annotations in ink, likely all made by Gollnitz. First leaves loose and damp-stain to lower outer corner of first half of book block. Third Latin edition, the second Amberg-edition of this work constituting one of the most important sources on etiquette between the Renaissance and Baroque periods, first published in Italian in 1574. Gollnitz published several geographical and pedagogical works between 1631 and 1643 and served as secretary to the Danish King Christian IV in 1642.
