Hawick, Dragonfly Music 1995 2002 2011 4° 21 x 29,7 illustrated purple paperback brochure 134 pp. (1-134) A Border Bagpipe Repertoire prick’d down by William DIXON AD 1733 ; Presented by Matt SEATTLE ; AD 2011; references, commentary, II appendix ; Front cover by David Hall;
William Dixon's repertoire is the only known 'horse's mouth' record of Border piping from a time when, and a place where, the tradition was at its peak. It furnishes a firm foundation not only for a revival of that tradition but also its revitalisation. 'Beyond all reasonable doubt, this is the oldest known manuscript of bagpipe music. Need I say more?' (Roderick D Cannon, Music Editor, The Piobaireachd Society, November 1995);

A kind of travel account through Switzerland. The preface of the book is delicious, so here it is: ‘In from Vevey ? hails an English voice at Neufchatel, where trains from Vevey and Lausanne meet trains from Bern and Zürich on their way to Paris. ‘Yes, and you - from Bern ? replies a New-York voice. From Bern. You had a good time ?. ‘Yes; it rains Niagara; but the lakes are lovely and the mountains absolutely grand’ ‘Saw anything of the Switzers ?. Eh ? You mean the boys who lead you up in ropes ? Not much. Somehow, you hardly notice them. Why not ? Well, now you ask me why. I think it is because they are so quiet, and get on with what they have to do so well. ‘These people, when you come to know them are as much worth study as their alps and lakes. Indeed ! Then tell us all about them’.William Hepworth Dixon, an English author and traveller, published a great numbers of books about his travels. In addition to it he wrote also some novels, e.g. 'Her Majesty Tower'.
