The first text appeared first in Paris one year earlier as this Köln edition. The second text was published in the same year as the Parisian first edition. Clichtoveus was born in 1472 in Nieuwpoort , a flemish fisher's port and now a seaside resort. He became professor at the Sorbonne university where he supported at first the reformation ideas of Luther. After the ''Determinatio '' of 1521 in which the university condemned Luther's ideas Clichtoveus became one of his fiercest opponents. He was called Luther's maul ( le maillet de Luther)."‎

‎Antilutherus Iodoci Clichtovei Neoportuensis, Doctoris Theologi, Tres Li/bros complectens.‎

‎" Paris, ex officina Simonis Colinaei ( Simon Colinaeus ) , 1524, in-folio, 310 x 204 mm, 362 pp (numbered 1-181) + (18)nn pp , (a-z8,&6), complete, collation identical with Adams C2178, bound in contemporary full calf, blindtooled covers, roll-stamped decoration, binding with wear and old restorations, small inkstain at the outer edge of the last 40 leaves, heavier at the last (blank) paste down. Nothwithstanding still a fine complete copy in its original binding. First owner's manuscript ex-libris on title (Ivo Soninni ?), In 1532 acquired by the Parisian Celestines (Notation on leaf &6 '' Celestines De parisius Rgn[ ] 1532'' ; on title page ''Celestimoru[m] de Parisius sig[nu]m 103''. Jodocus Clichtoveus was born in the flemish Northsee coastal town of Nieuwpoort ( Neoportus ) in 1472. He became doctor in theology at the Sorbonne university, died as canon of Chartres cathedral in 1543. He was one of the first and fiercest opponents of Martin Luther. His ''Antilutherus'', here in first edition, is considered his main work. It appeared barely three years after Luther was expelled from the Roman Catholic Church by Pope Leo X. In this book he refutes the evangelical interpretations of the Protestants and defends the theological value of the Holy Mass and the holy orders. Apparently he was the first theologian of the Sorbonne to turn against Protestantism."‎
