2528. Vers 1860. (2) Le port de Gibraltar. (petit format) Francis Frith, réf. 2525, vers 1860. (3) Grand port de Kalkara, La Valette, Malte. (grand format 21 x 27) photographe anonyme. Vers 1880. (4) Port de Marsamxett, La Valette, Malte. (grand format 20 cm x 24,5 cm). Anonyme. Vers 1880. (5) Port-Saïd. (grand format 22 cm x 28 cm). Zangaki Bothers. Vers 1880. (6) Canal de Suez, Port-Saïd avec plusieurs bateaux. (grand format 19 cm x 26 cm). Felix Bonfils. Vers 1880. (9) Alger. Vue de Belcourt (aujourd'hui Belouizdad), (grand format 22 cm x 28 cm). Anonyme, vers 1880. (10) Alger. L'entrée du port. Français. (grand format 22 cm x 29 cm). Anonyme. Vers 1880. (11) La mosquée d'Alger. (petit format 13 cm x 18 cm.) Leroux n° 3. Vers 1880. (12) Le quai d'Alger. (petit format 13 cm x 18 cm). Leroux n° 4. Vers 1880.
A nice collection of 14 albumen prints pasted onto 12 stiff album cards, recording a trip to the Middle East. Ten of the photographs are large format [21cm x 27cm] and four are in a smaller format [15.5cm x 20.5cm.] All of the photographs are in good, bright and well defined black and white condition, with just a touch of foxing to them. The backing card is a little darkened and more heavily foxed. The verso of each is blank (apart from our 2B pencil annotated information). These are made up of: (1) The Rock of Gibraltar. (small 15.5 x 20.5) Francis Frith albumen print ref 2528. C1860. (2) The port at Gibraltar. (small) Francis Frith ref 2525 C1860. (3) Kalkara Grand Harbour, Valletta, Malta. (large 21 x 27) anonymous photographer. C 1880. (4) Marsamxett harbour, Valetta, Malta. (large 20cm x 24.5cm). Anonymous. C 1880. (5) Port Said. (large 22cm x 28cm. ) Zangaki Bothers. C 1880. (6) Suez canal, Port Said with several boats. (large 19cm x 26cm). Felix Bonfils. C1880. (7) Two men on the beach during low tide. (large 18.5cm x 28cm). Zangaki brothers. C 1875. (8) Sailing boat on the Suez canal. (large 20.5cm x 27.5cm) Zangaki brothers. C1875. A rather lovely photograph, which shows the boat that the brothers used during trips on the canal (They shared it with Arnoux). On the deck was a portable darkroom, which is clearly shown in this photograph. There is also a man on the beach praying. (9) Algiers. View of Belcourt (now Belouizdad), (large 22cm x 28cm). Anonymous C 1880. (10) Algiers. The entrance to the port. French. (large 22cm x 29cm). Anonymous. C 1880. (11) The mosque at Algiers. (small 13cm x 18cm.) Leroux #3. C 1880. (12) The Wharf at Algiers. (small 13cm x 18cm.) Leroux #4. C 1880. (13) "The Tanks" (water containers) at Yemen / Aden. (large 19.5cm x 22.5cm). Anonymous C 1880. (14) An unknown port full of sailing ships. (large 19.5cm x 24.5cm.) Anonymous. C 1880. A very nice collection of early tourist photographs. Mostly French in origin, but from the presence of the Frith photographs, the inclusion of Gibraltar, and the provenance of the collection, we believe it to be a British traveller. .
