Paris Lemaine & Fils 1870 Première édition. Grande affiche satirique représentant l'empereur Guillaume II et Napoléon III au début de la guerre franco-prussienne. 50 cm x 32,5 cm. Les bords de l'affiche présentent d'importantes déchirures et plis. Les plus importants ont été réparés à l'aide de ruban adhésif d'archivage. Légère décoloration. Néanmoins, l'affiche est dans l'ensemble en bon état et peut être encadrée. Conforme à Paris Musées / Carnavalet Réf. : QB.954. Alexandre Baylac était un caricaturiste et lithographe français du XIXe siècle actif à Paris, connu pour ses uvres satiriques sur la guerre franco-prussienne de 1870-1871 et la Commune qui suivit. L'une de ses uvres les plus satiriques était « Les Criminels Célèbres ! ».
First edition. A large poster satirising Kaiser Wilhelm and Napoleon III at the beginning of the Franco-Prussian war. 50cm x 32.5cm. The edges of the poster have significant closed tears and creases. The worst of these have been repaired with archival tape. A little darkening. Nevertheless, the bulk of the poster is in good condition, and it is suitable for framing. Conforms to Paris Musées / Carnavalet Ref: QB.954. Alexandre Baylac was a 19th-century French caricaturist and lithographer active in Paris, known for satirical works about the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871 and the commune following. One of his most most satirical works was "Les Criminels Célèbres!" .

Paris L. Paul 1871 Première édition. Un très bel exemplaire de cette affiche satirique, tournant en dérision l'empereur et son ancienne maîtresse après la défaite de Sedan. Après un bref séjour en prison en Allemagne, il s'exila en Angleterre en mars 1871. Il mourut en Angleterre en 1873. La lithographie est l'uvre de J. More. 320 × 250 mm (12œ × 9Ÿ pouces). En très bel état. Légèrement foncée, mais sans usure sur les bords. Verso propre. Un excellent exemplaire de cette feuille de caricature. Un exemplaire est conservé à la bibliothèque du Musée de la ville de Paris. Réf. QB.966.
First edition. A lovely example of this broadside, mocking the emperor and is former mistress following the defeat at Sedan. After a short spell in prison in Germany, he went into exile in England in March 1871. He died in England in 1873. The lithograph is produced by J. More. 320 by 250mm (12œ by 9Ÿ inches). In lovely condition. Fractionally darkened, but with no edge wear. Clean to the rear. An excellent copy of this caricature sheet. A copy is held at the library Musée de la ville de Paris. Ref.
