‎Distribuite in tre tomi, come nella seguente pagina si dimostra. Con un breve ragguaglio della sua vita. presso Nicolò Pezzana, In Venezia, 1716. In-8 p. (mm. 219x161), 3 volumi, mz. pelle coeva (spacchi alle cerniere; lievi manc. ai dorsi), fregi e tit. oro su due tasselli al dorso, pp. (24),825 (compreso il ritratto dell'A., inc. in rame); (12),934; (8),818 (manca l'ultima c.b.). Frontespizio del primo volume stampato in rosso e nero; con alc. figg. nel testo (1 a piena pag.) del 3° volume. Vi sono contenute: Vita dell'autore - La ricreazione del savio - La geografia trasportata al morale - Simboli trasportati al morale // L' uomo al punto - L'eternità consigliera - Le due eternità dell'uomo - Pensieri sacri - Grandezza di Cristo // L'uomo di lettere difeso, ed emendato. ‎Parti due. Dedicato all'Ill. Signor Paolo Della Porta. Malatesta, Milano, (1646). In-24 gr. (mm. 130x67), mz. pelle coeva con ang., tit. oro su tassello al dorso, pp. (16),550,(10). Celebre opera del letterato gesuita Bartoli (1608-85), scrittore fecondissimo nel campo storico, morale, scientifico, retorico.<br>L'huomo di lettere.., che moraleggia sulla vita del savio e del letterato, e che critica e condanna i suoi più comuni difetti, venne accolto con grandissimo plauso. Pubblicato a Roma nel 1645, ebbe numerose ristampe e fu tradotto in latino, francese, inglese e tedesco. Così Gamba,1780 (in Nota). Cfr. anche Michiel,I, p. 117 e Piantanida,III,3555 per le numer. ediz.Rifilato (con picc. perdita di testo su 3 cc. iniziali) e alone alle prime 10 cc. ma complessivam. discreto esemplare.‎

Ouvrage orné de quelques lettrines et culs-de-lampe. Cuir défraîchi et taché, petits manque sur les coiffes, coins émoussés, 1 coin abîmé, papier roussi par endroits, rousseurs, salissures dans la marge centrale sur les 2 premières pages.‎

‎La pauvreté contente Paris, Chez Edme Couterot. 1689 (Daniello Bartoli) In-12 de 154x93mm. gardes, Frontispice, [9] ff. 340 pp. gardes Plein veau jaspé marron. Dos à cinq nerfs avec caissons et pièce de titre dorés. Roulette dorée sur les bords des plats extérieurs. Contres-gardes blanches en papier vergé. Tranches rouges (effacées). "La Pauvreté contente est une morale aussi étrange que celle des égyptiens dont les tableaux hiéroglyphiques font rire celui qui n’en regarde que les figures." Danielo Bartoli Ce livre est la seconde traduction française du texte La Poverta Contenta (1649) de Daniello Bartoli, célèbre érudit jésuite italien. Il pourrait-être hérité de la première partie de son célèbre Dell’Huomo di lettere difeso, et emendato. 1645 intitulée La Sapienza Felice anche nelle Miserie [La Sagesse heureuse, même dans la misère]. qui connut un grand succès et fut réimprimé et traduit dans toutes les langues européennes. Le livre commence par un texte dédié aux Riches qui ne sont jamais contents. L’auteur attaque directement les riches pour se prémunir de tous préjugés sur la naïveté de sa réflexion et sur leur mépris de la pauvreté. "Le nom de pauvreté sera peut-être aussi fâcheux à vos oreilles que la présence de pauvres est insupportables à vos yeux." Danielo Bartoli Le livre comporte 17 parties. L’auteur traite le sujet de la pauvreté sous plusieurs aspects: philosophique, théologique, économique, matériel, social. Et cherche à démontrer les bienfaits de la pauvreté lorsqu’elle est volontaire. Des thèmes intemporels comme l'accumulation des richesses, l’obsession de l’argent, amasser, conserver, perdre ses biens… cette clairvoyance sur les comportements de l’homme reste toujours d’actualité. "Les pauvres contents sont exempts de la peine d’amasser, du soin de conserver et de la douleur de perdre." Danielo Bartoli Quelques exemples de chapitres : Chap. XI Des habits vains & immodestes des riches et du vêtement simple des pauvres Il est intéressant de comparer la première traduction française faite par le Père Brunet en 1664 avec celle de Couterot (la nôtre). Ces deux traductions n’ont rien en commun et le sens du texte est complètement différent d’autant plus que la version de Brunet est difficile à comprendre, le texte est décousu, peu fluide. Tandis que celle imprimée par Couterot est bien mieux construite, et retranscrit fidèlement toute la profondeur de l’esprit de Bartoli. "Passionnant texte, pleins d’esprit et de malice qui saura vous rassurer quant à l’état de vos propres finances." Danielo Bartoli This book is the second French translation of the text La Poverta Contenta (1649) by Daniello Bartoli, a famous Italian Jesuit scholar. It may have been inherited from the first part of his famous Dell'Huomo di lettere difeso, et emendato. 1645, entitled La Sapienza Felice anche nelle Miserie [Happy Wisdom, Even in Misery], which was a great success and was reprinted and translated into all European languages. The book begins with a text dedicated to the Rich Who Are Never Content. The author directly attacks the rich to guard against any prejudices about the naivety of his thinking and their contempt for poverty. "The name poverty may be as unpleasant to your ears as the presence of the poor is unbearable to your eyes." Danielo Bartoli The book is divided into 17 parts. The author addresses the subject of poverty from several perspectives: philosophical, theological, economic, material, and social. He seeks to demonstrate the benefits of voluntary poverty. Timeless themes such as the accumulation of wealth, the obsession with money, hoarding, holding onto, and losing one's possessions... this insight into human behavior remains relevant today. "The contented poor are free from the trouble of amassing, the care of preserving, and the pain of losing." Danielo Bartoli Some sample chapters: Chapter VIII: That the rich's strength arouses more pity than envy Chapter IX: That the hope of heaven's blessings makes the poor content in their poverty Chapter X: On the vices that usually accompany wealth Chapter XI: On the vain and immodest clothes of the rich and the simple clothing of the poor It is interesting to compare the first French translation made by Father Brunet in 1664 with that of Couterot (our translation). These two translations have nothing in common, and the meaning of the text is completely different, especially since Brunet's version is difficult to understand; the text is disjointed and not very fluid. While the one printed by Couterot is much better constructed and faithfully transcribes all the depth of Bartoli's spirit. "A fascinating text, full of wit and mischief, which will reassure you about the state of your own finances." Casaubon Library Rare book. No digital version is available, and we have found no record of this edition being sold. Not referenced in standard bibliographies. Even Gamba, though cited by Brunet and Graesse as being more comprehensive on Bartoli's texts in his Serie dei testi di lingua e di altre opere importanti nella italiana letteratura, does not cite La Poverta Contenta. ‎Edizione del 1664 di questo resoconto della vita e missione alla Corte del Gran Mogol del Padre Rodolfo Acquaviva scritto da Daniello Bartoli. Padre Ridolfo Acquaviva fu ordinato nel 1578 a Lisbona, partendo il 24 marzo 1578 per Goa dove insegnò filosofia. Tra il 1580 e il 1583 a capo d'una missione, per la grande stima e fiducia dei suoi superiori venne mandato alla corte del Gran Mogol, Akbar a Fatehpur Sikri. Di ritorno a Goa, nel 1583, prese la direzione della missione in Salcete ma fu nello stesso anno uccisio nel villaggio di Concolim con altri confratelli (Courtesy Wikipedia). Al verso dell'ultima carta xilografia con simbolo della Compagnia di Gesu. In buone condizioni. Copertina assente. Legatura in discrete condizioni con lievi rotture e ultime due carte quasi staccate. Pagine in buone condizioni con fioriture. Piccola piegatura all'angolo inferiore destro delle prime 32 pagine. In 16. 15x8 cm. Pp. (6)+193+(3). Edition of 1664 of this resuming of life and mission in the Court of Gran Mogol by the Father Rodolfo Acquaviva written by Daniello Bartoli. Father Ridolfo Acquaviva was ordered priest in 1578 in Lisbona, leaving the 24th of march 1578 to Goa where he teached phylosophy. Between 1580 and 1583 he was chief of a mission, and was sent in Gran Mogol Court, Akbar in Fatehpur Sikri. He came back in Goa, in 1583, went in the mission of Salcete but in the same year was killed in the village of Concolim with other brothers (Courtesy Wikipedia). In the verso of the last page woodcut with symbol of Company of Jesus. In good conditions. Cover lacks. Binding in fair conditions with light cracks and the last two pages almost detached. Inside pages are in good conditions with foxing. Little folding in the lower right corner of the first 32 pages all'angolo inferiore destro delle prime 32 pagine. In 16. 15x8 cm. Pp. (6)+193+(3).‎
