‎Nice Caisson et Mignon 1871 Nice, Caisson et Mignon, 1871. 55 pp. . Demi-chagrin vert à coins, dos lisse orné de roulettes et fleurons à l’or, titre doré, tête dorée. Fer doré sur le plat supérieur représentant un profil de Minerve (provenance non-identifiée). Premier plat de couverture conservé. Un coin frotté, cuir légèrement blanchi. ÉDITION ORIGINALE RARE de ce recueil poétique, tirée à 100 exemplaires. Les Poésies philosophiques reparaîtront chez Alphonse Lemerre en 1874, accompagnées des Premières Poésies. Lorsque la jeune Louise Ackermann, née Choquet, commence à composer des vers, elle suscite l'inquiétude de sa mère : attachée aux conventions traditionnelles et mondaines, Madame Choquet contacte une cousine, qui lui suggère au contraire d'encourager les talents de sa fille. Entrée en pension, Louise Choquet est remarquée par son professeur de littérature, qui fait lire ses vers à Victor Hugo. Lors d'un séjour en Allemagne, elle rencontre le linguiste Paul Ackermann, qu'elle épouse en 1843. Elle lui cache cependant ses "explorations poétiques". La phtisie l'emporte au bout de deux ans de mariage ; Louise Ackermann, endeuillée, se retire près de Nice et se consacre un temps aux travaux agricoles. Dans sa retraite, elle reprend peu à peu la plume. En 1855 paraissent ses Contes, adaptations de récits orientaux auxquels Ackermann mêle quelques éléments autobiographiques. Les Contes passent inaperçus, mais ses Poésies Philosophiques, parues pour la première fois en 1871, créent le scandale : on reproche à la poétesse de s'être introduite dans un milieu d'hommes, on critique son apparence aussi bien que son âge et l'on s'inquiète de son athéisme. Mais cette publication ne lui attirera pas que des détracteurs : Barbey d'Aurevilly, notamment, saluera la beauté de ces poésies "impies, athées, résolument athées, navrante, navrées et superbes", "les plus belles horreurs littéraires quon ait écrites depuis les Fleurs du mal de Baudelaire. Et même c'est plus beau,car dans le mal, le mal absolu, cest plus pur.» Tolstoï, même, aurait compté parmi ses admirateurs. Ackermann Il s'agit vraisemblablement d'Alexandre Petit d'Ormoy (Metz : 1811 - Nice : 1881), ancien élève de l'Ecole Polytechnique dont les sujets de recherche se portèrent notamment sur le magnétisme. Vice président de la société de Mesmérisme, il s'efforça de mettre au point une technique dite "chirognomonique", permettant de "reconnaître par l'inspection des mains les facultés, le caractère, les penchants, les aptitudes des personnes." (Congrès Scientifique de France, 32e session, séance du 9 août 1865). À sa mort, Petit d'Ormoy légua sa fortune à l'Académie des sciences, chargée de l'employer à l'attribution d'un prix "Petit d'Ormoy" en mathématiques, physique, astronomie et sciences naturelles. ‎London: R. Ackermann's Repository, 1808 Planche numéro 9 du "Microcosme de Londres" d'Ackermann. Une belle aquatinte. Première édition. La plaque mesure 24 cm x 29 cm. La taille du montage est de 32,5 cm sur 38 cm (12Ÿ sur 15 pouces). Les détails architecturaux ont été dessinés par Pugin, et Rowlandson a dessiné les personnages (les deux sont crédités sur la feuille). L'aquatinte a été réalisée par J. Bluck. Très belle impression propre de cette planche, avec une bonne mise en couleur. Une très petite rousseur fermée sur le bord inférieur de la planche. Ackermann a réalisé cette uvre entre 1807 et 1810. L'un des plus grands livres de planches en couleurs. "Les planches de Rowlandson et de Pugin présentent une image inégalée de Londres au début du XIXe siècle, d'une valeur historique, car de nombreux bâtiments n'existent plus." (Tooley).‎

Very nice clean impression of this plate, with good colouring. A very small closed foxing spot to the bottom edge of the plate. Ackermann produced this work between 1807 and 1810. Imprimeur et marchand d’estampes britannique d’origine allemande, ce dernier est connu pour avoir inventé divers procédés d’impressions lithographiques en couleurs.On trouve dans ce keepsake des auteurs tels que : James Hogg (1770-1835) connu sous le nom du Bergé d’Ettrick (The Ettrick Shepherd) ; Thomas Haynes Bayly (1797-1839) ; Richard Polwhele (1760-1838) ; Susanna Strickland (1803-1885), William Lisle Bowles (1862-1850)…L’illustration se compose d’une gravure en relief (blanche sur fond ocre), d’un titre gravé et de 13 planches gravées par Chevalier, Finden, Agar, Freebairn, Graves, Shenton, Carter, Rolls, Marr, d’après des compositions de Burney, Martin, Sharpe, Barrett, Landseer, Knight, Chishlome, Prout, Corbould, Purser, Stephanoff, Phillips, Westall et West.Charmant exemplaire bien conservé malgré quelques frottements et un coup aux coins supérieurs. He received considerable help in preperation and eventual write up of these lectures from Bernays. This material was subsequently reworked by Ackermann into the monograph 'Grundzüge der Theoretischen Logik' (the offered item). It containes the first exposition ever of first-order logic and poses the problem of its completeness and the decision problem ('Entscheidungsproblem'). The first of these questions was answered just a year later by Kurt Gödel in his doctorial dissertation 'Die Vollständigkeit der Axiome des logischen Funktionenkalküls'. This result is known as Gödel's completeness theorem. Two years later Gödel published his famous 1931 paper 'Über formal unentscheidbare Sätze der Principia Mathematica und verwandter Systeme I' in which he showed that a stronger logic, capable of modeling arithmetic, is either incomplete or inconsistent (Gödel's second incompleteness theorem). The later question posed by Hilbert and Ackermann regarding the decision problem was answered in 1936 independantly by Alonzo Church and Allan Turing. Church used his model the lambda-calculus and Turing his machine model to construct undecidable problems and show that the decision problem is unsolvable in first-order logic. These results by Gödel, Church, and Turing rank amongst the most important contributions to mathematical logic ever. Scarce in this condition.‎

"Établis en Ukraine depuis plusieurs années, le photographe Niels Ackermann et le journaliste Sébastien Gobert posent un regard curieux sur l’histoire de ce pays. Depuis la révolution de Maïdan, le gouvernement ukrainien cherche à marquer, vingt-cinq ans après l’indépendance du pays, une rupture nette avec le passé soviétique, notamment en promulguant des lois de « décommunisation ». Les deux reporters sont partis à la recherche des marques tangibles de la période soviétique, sous son aspect le plus répandu et apparemment banal : les statues de Lénine. Celles-ci ont aujourd’hui entièrement disparu du paysage ukrainien. La scène est bien connue, répétée des dizaines et des centaines de fois depuis 1990 : la statue est jetée à terre par un gros véhicule, les grands-mères crient ou pleurent, les hommes fument, certains filment la scène. Mais que fait-on de la statue après sa chute ? Y a-t-il un cimetière prévu pour ce type d’objets emblématiques ? Le Lénine en miettes a-t-il une valeur au marché noir ? Que pensent les gens de cette destruction des symboles ? Dans leur enquête, Niels Ackermann et Sébastien Gobert découvrent des Lénine dans les endroits les plus improbables, jardins, décharges, couloirs de musées, salons de particuliers...
