With 631 (of 702) coloured copperlates by Sydenham Edwards, William Kilburn, James Sowerby, J. Swan u. a. nach Edwards, Graves, Hooker and others. Second, substantially enlarged edition of this magnificent botanical work. Following the death of William Curtis, publication was continued by George Graves and considerably expanded with the involvement of William Jackson Hooker (1785–1865), later Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. Compared with the first edition, it contains numerous additional species and new plates of outstanding artistic quality. William Curtis (1746–1799), British apothecary, botanist and entomologist, was one of the most distinguished naturalists of his time. With his Flora Londinensis, he produced the first comprehensive, scientifically grounded account of the flora of the London area, setting new standards for botanical illustration. Together with his Botanical Magazine, which continues to be published to this day, the work ranks among the milestones of British botany in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The magnificent botanical illustrations, mostly depicting plants life-size, were produced by distinguished artists including Sydenham Edwards, William Kilburn, James Sowerby and others. Lacking 71 of the 702 plates. Foxing throughout, in places more pronounced. Bindings rubbed and bumped. Spines with losses.‎
