(mm. 225x135), mz. pelle coeva, tit. oro su dorso a cordoni, pp. (4),412, testo su due colonne, con un ritratto del Manzoni in litografia e 1 tavola f.t. (alla pag. 64), pure in litografia. Questa edizione contiene le "Illustrazioni del Cantù". Cfr. Giujusa Bibl. critica delle ediz. dei Promessi Sposi,I, p. 62 e 125: Le "Illustrazioni del Cantù" sono di fondo storico-critico rifacendosi a una vasta consultazione di autori, soprattutto il Ripamonti, e sulla misura socio-pedagogica allora richiesta dal caso.. Questopera infatti (Sulla storia lombarda del sec. XVII. Ragionamenti per commento ai Promessi Sposi) fu composta e pubblicata per illuminare i giovani lombardi sul periodo storico descritto dal Manzoni e per insegnar loro a cercare nel passato le ragioni del presente e i rimedi per lavvenire. E un primo esempio di commento storico-politico a "I Promessi Sposi", non sfuggito allelogio del De Sanctis..Cfr. anche Parenti,134. Solo alc. fioriture intercalate nel testo, altrimenti esemplare ben conservato..

Storia Milanese del secolo XVII scoperta e rifatta. Passigli, Borghi e Comp., Firenze, 1829-1830. In-32 gr. (mm. 85x 55), 6 volumi, graziosa legatura in p. pelle bazana coeva, decorazioni e titolo oro su tassello al dorso, pp. XI,192; 213; 228; 236; 241,(3); 220; tutti introdotti da una bella illustrazione racchiusa da una specie di frontespizio: nell'alto della vignetta Manzoni / I Promessi Sposi / vol. I (II, III, ecc.); in basso: citazione dal romanzo in carattere corsivo / Firenze, 1829, presso Passigli Borghi e C.Le 6 illustrazioni sono inc. in rame, su disegni di C. Falcini, incisi i primi 5 da Marco Zignani, il sesto da A. Daverio. La data sul frontesp. dei primi 3 voll. è 1829, sugli ultimi 3 è 1830; diversamente, la data sul recto illustr. inciso dei primi 2 voll. è 1829 e quella degli altri 4 è 1830. Così Giujusa Bibl. critica.. de i Promessi Sposi, I, n. 26, pp. 37-38 che precisa anche: edizione "rara"; promessa come elegantissima' dal Passigli allo stesso Manzoni in una richiesta di autorizzazione alla ristampa del romanzo, accordata poi dall'autore, anche se non in termini espliciti - Salveraglio, 33 - Parenti, 57, p. 50. Solo primi 4 voll. con qualche alone marginale, ma certamente un buon esemplare, ben conservato, contenuto in una scatola in cartonato moderno, stile 800, con bordi in tela.

(mm. 266x180), mz. pelle coeva, dorso a cordoni con fregi e titolo oro, pp. 864; testo inquadrato in doppio filetto ed illustrato da ca. 450 disegni, eseguiti per la maggior parte da Francesco Gonin e Paolo Riccardi, inc. su legno."Prima edizione illustrata" dei "Promessi Sposi", voluta dallo stesso Manzoni, e prima edizione del testo riveduto e della "Storia della Colonna Infame". E' l'edizione definitiva che il Manzoni diede dopo la "risciacquatura in Arno".Cfr. Giujusa,I,80: La stampa di questa ediz. fu completata nell'agosto del 1842 ed era il risultato di una pubblicazione a dispense iniziatasi nel novembre del 40 - Parenti,331 - Salveraglio,57 - Cat. Hoepli,218 - Benezit,VI, p. 274 che del Gonin (1808-1889) cita naturalmente l'illustrazione dei Promessi Sposi.Alc. fioriture intercalate nel testo, altrimenti esemplare ben conservato.

London James Burns 1844 Deux volumes. Première traduction en anglais de l'ensemble du roman de Manzoni I promessi sposi (Les Fiancés). Avec des illustrations gravées sur bois tout au long de l'ouvrage, y compris les portraits de la vignette de titre. Reliure en trois quarts de cuir, avec titre doré au dos. Les plats sont quelque peu frottés, mais autrement en bon état. Les pages sont vieillies à l'intérieur, mais propres. Manzoni a écrit cet ouvrage après avoir perdu sa femme dans un écrasement suite à l'explosion d'une fusée lors des célébrations du mariage de Napoléon avec Marie-Louise en 1810. Il entra en titubant dans une église, pria pour que sa femme revienne saine et sauve, et lorsqu'elle fut retrouvée plus tard en bonne santé et à la maison, il devint un fervent catholique et écrivit ce roman plusieurs années plus tard. xi, 384 ; [2], [385]-814 pp. 165 x 110 mm
Two volumes. First Thus, a translation into English of the whole of Manzoni's romantic masterpiece - I promessi sposi. With woodcut illustrations throughout, including title vignette portraits. In three quarter leather bindings, with gilt title to spines. Boards are somewhat rubbed, but otherwise in good shape. Pages age toned inside, but clean. Manzoni famously wrote this work after losing his wife in a crush after a rocket was set off during the celebrations of Napoleon's wedding to Marie-Louise in 1810. He staggered in to a church, prayed for his wife's safe return, and when she was found later in good health, and at home, he became a devote Catholic. xi, 384; [2], [385]-814 pp. 165 x 110 mm (6œ x 4Œ inches). .
