Orino Tipografia Andreoli 1838 Due volumi in 16°, pp. 343, 3 bianche; 315, (1), (4) contiene in fondo la poesia 'Il cinque maggio'. Ritratto dell'autore e 5 illustrazioni incise f.t. Belle legature posteriori con duplice cornice lineare ai piatti e titoli in oro ai dorsi. Cofanetto. Conservate le brossure editoriali. Esemplare in barbe, restauri alle brossure e ai margini esterni di alcune carte. Rara edizione dei Promessi Sposi stampata a Orino. Esiste una diatriba sulla paternità del luogo di stampa, si pensava stampata nel piccolo comune del varesotto, come testimoniava una lapide collocata sulla facciata del Municipio di Orino che recava la scritta: " LA TIPOGRAFIA ANDREOLI DI ORINO IN FRATERNI RAPPORTI CONCORDE CON LA PIÙ CELEBRE DI CAPOLAGO STAMPÒ NEL 1838 UNA RARA EDIZIONE DEI PROMESSI SPOSI ED IN ALTRI ANNI DEL DURO DOMINIO STRANIERO POCHI MANOBILI LIBRI A RAVVIVARE LE FEDI E LE SPERANZE NELL’ITALIA FUTURA NEL PRIMO CENTENARIO DELLA LIBERTÀ LOMBARDA GIUGNO 1959". Ma nel corso del V Congresso di Studi Manzoniani tenutosi a Lecco e a Lugano il 9 ottobre 1961 la professoressa Adriana Ramelli, direttrice della Biblioteca Cantonale di Lugano e studiosa del Manzoni, mise in discussione tutte le certezze italiane e come riporta poi nel suo saggio 'Le edizioni manzoniane ticinesi del 1965': " per noi non è mai esistito il dubbio che questa non fosse edizione ticinese; ci appogiavamo all'autorità di Motta, il quale pur non conoscendo questa rarissima edizione dei Promessi Sposi, cita però altre opere di altri autori, uscite tutte con note tipografiche identiche dalla stessa tipografia, che egli ripetutamente afferma essere la tipografia Andreoli di Orino in Montagnola nei pressi di Lugano." La diatriba continuò tanto che la professoressa Ramelli riprese l’argomento nel 1992 pubblicando sulla rivista milanese «La Martinella» un articolo dal titolo "la dibattuta faccenda della Tipografia di Orino per una edizione rarissima dei Promessi Sposi”.

(mm. 268x178), mz. pelle coeva, dorso a cordoni con fregi e titolo oro, pp. 864; testo inquadrato in doppio filetto ed illustrato da ca. 450 disegni, eseguiti per la maggior parte da Francesco Gonin e Paolo Riccardi, inc. su legno."Prima edizione illustrata" dei "Promessi Sposi", voluta dallo stesso Manzoni, e prima edizione del testo riveduto e della "Storia della Colonna Infame". E' l'edizione definitiva che il Manzoni diede dopo la "risciacquatura in Arno".Cfr. Giujusa,I,80: La stampa di questa ediz. fu completata nell'agosto del 1842 ed era il risultato di una pubblicazione a dispense iniziatasi nel novembre del 40 - Parenti,331 - Salveraglio,57 - Cat. Hoepli,218 - Benezit,VI, p. 274 che del Gonin (1808-1889) cita naturalmente l'illustrazione dei Promessi Sposi.Lievi fioriture intercalate nel testo, altrimenti esemplare ben conservato.

(mm. 85x 55), 6 volumi, graziosa legatura in p. pelle bazana coeva, decorazioni e titolo oro su tassello al dorso, pp. XI,192; 213; 228; 236; 241,(3); 220; tutti introdotti da una bella illustrazione racchiusa da una specie di frontespizio: nell'alto della vignetta Manzoni / I Promessi Sposi / vol. I (II, III, ecc.); in basso: citazione dal romanzo in carattere corsivo / Firenze, 1829, presso Passigli Borghi e C.Le 6 illustrazioni sono inc. in rame, su disegni di C. Falcini, incisi i primi 5 da Marco Zignani, il sesto da A. Daverio. La data sul frontesp. dei primi 3 voll. 1829, sugli ultimi 3 1830; diversamente, la data sul recto illustr. inciso dei primi 2 voll. 1829 e quella degli altri 4 1830. Cos Giujusa Bibl. critica.. de i Promessi Sposi, I, n. 26, pp. 37-38 che precisa anche: edizione "rara"; promessa come elegantissima' dal Passigli allo stesso Manzoni in una richiesta di autorizzazione alla ristampa del romanzo, accordata poi dall'autore, anche se non in termini espliciti - Salveraglio, 33 - Parenti, 57, p. 50. Solo primi 4 voll. con qualche alone marginale, ma certamente un buon esemplare, ben conservato, contenuto in una scatola in cartonato moderno, stile 800, con bordi in tela.

Storia milanese del sec. XVII. Nuova edizione sull'ultima corretta dall'Autore con prefazione di Ferdinando Galanti. Salmin, Padova, 1902. In-32 (mm. 65 x 40), p. pelle coeva (dorso ben restaurato), decorazioni e tit. oro ai piatti e al dorso, in astuccio mod., pp. (2),XV,1097,(5), con un ritratto del Manzoni. "Edizione originale" in questo formato. Cfr. Bondy "Miniature Books", p. 97: "One of the most compendious one-volume works ever published in miniature format is the 1902 edition of Manzoni's great novel "I promessi sposi". The printer-publishers are the brothers Salmin of Padua who were responsible for the sensational "Dantino" and the tiny Galileo. In this volume dedicated to Queen Margherita of Savoy they have departed from the use of the ultra-small type used in these earlier volumes and employ a good legible 4,5-point type. Spielmann, n. 355A, writes: 'One of the most important and extensive works ever produced in such tiny compass'".Esemplare ben conservato.
