---- EDITION ORIGINALE ---- BEL EXEMPLAIRE ---- "From 1887 and 1891 Richet extended his investigations of animal heat. He supported his view that thermal polypnea takes place only when the carbonic acid concentration of the blood is low, by showing that the breathing of a mixture of oxygen and carbon dioxide preludes its appearance. He confirmed his law of proportionality of heat and surface area for several mammals, using the indirect method of measuring heat production by the quantity of carbon dioxide exhaled. He showed that dogs anesthetized by chloral non longer produced heat in proportion to their surface area, from which he inferred that the different rates of heat production normally maintained by animals of different sizes must depend on the control of the central nervous system...". ---- EDITION ORIGINALE ---- BEL EXEMPLAIRE ---- Heirs of Hippocrates N° 1799 : "Bernard became interested in animal heat very early in his career but did not assemble the results of his experimental work until the early 1870s to use in his course at the Collège de France. Among the many experiments Bernard discusses in this series of twenty-two lectures are those concerning the blood temperature in various parts of the body, the effect of various drugs on body temperature and the effect of high temperatures on the length of life" - DSB II p. 30/31**438/D2+427/CART4+7557/CART2
