Bichat est TRES RARE en édition originale. On rencontre le plus souvent, joint aux deux premiers volumes des oeuvres chirurgicales, l'édition publiée par M. Roux en 1803. Garrison & Morton (N° 5580 & 4165.02) indique d'ailleurs par erreur l'édition donnée par M. Roux comme étant l'originale et Heirs of Hippocrates ne mentionne que les deux premiers volumes ---- It was not P.J. Roux in 1803, as stated by Garrison & Morton (N° 5580 & 4165.02) and Heirs of Hippocrates (N° 1052 &1053), who edited for the first time Desault's Traité des maladies urinaires, but Xavier Bichat in 1799 ---- GARRISON N° 5580, 2927, 4165.02 : "Desault was a great french surgeon, one of the first professors at the Ecole pratique de chirurgie. He made many suggestions regarding the treatment of fractures and dislocations and is one of the founders of modern vascular surgery. He was Xavier Bichat's teacher, and Bichat edited vol. 1 et 2. Desault developed the technique of tying blood-vessels for the treatment of aneurysm. With Chopart Desault founded urological surgery and was one of the first to have a clear understanding of urological disease" ---- Heirs of Hippocrates N° 1052 : "Desault instituted major changes in the teaching of surgical anatomy, especially emphasizing the importance of learning normal and pathological anatomy through actual dissection... He introduced a number of surgical instruments and techniques, most notably in the areas of fractures and dislocations. He founded the school of surgery. With large numbers of surgical patients available, Desault introduced a new form of clinical teaching in which he taught from the bedside instead of the lecture hall. His classes drew students from all of Europe and he was ultimately acclaimed as the "first surgeon of Europe". Desault published few works and it remained for Bichat to prepare the present treatise.
