André LEVINSON est un des historiens du ballet et de la danse les plus connus ; il a travaillé sur les ballets russes, Serge Lifar, Picasso... S'inspirant du travail sur les formes des historiens d'art, il a réfléchi à l'esthétique et à la codification de la danse. Joint une photographie en noir et blanc de "La Argentina", datée de 1941 et dédicacée à Harriet Dyer Adams, historienne d'art. Notre livre est son exemplaire personnel. Antonia MERCE y LUQUE (dite "La Argentina") (1890-1936), est une danseuse espagnole, qui fit carrière au Moulin-Rouge et à l'Opéra de Paris, avant que DIAGHILEV lui confie la direction des Ballets Espagnols de Paris ; son charisme et son engagement féministe la font surnommer "La Pavlova du Flamenco".
