Volume 3 has the title: "De la France et des Etats-Unis, ou, De l'importance de la Revolution de l'Amerique pour le bonheur de la France". Vol. 3 is an account of the American Revolution's importance to the French Revoltion. Jacques Pierre Brissot de Warville (1754-1793) was a Girondin French revolutionary and author. Brissot visited America as part of the Gallo-American Society and to gather information about investments and land sales. In 1788 Brissot toured the newly independent United States "to study men who had just acquired their liberty." He spent 6 months traveling from Boston to Virginia, dined with James Madison, and spent three days with the Washingtons at Mt. Vernon. In his study of America, Brissot sought to overcome France's shortcomings by shuffling off the enormous negative economic weight of feudalistic practices. Brissot strongly advocated reshaping France in the American model, combining commercial freedom with republican values. Brissot payed the Quakers special compliment in his writings, appreciative of their simple and egalitarian customs. He believed increased trade with the new country would open his countrymen's minds to American republicanism. (REF: P2-6B)‎

‎Edition originale (Sabin 8035 - Ined 817 - Kress B, 2037 - Leclerc 215 - Chadenat 28). Ouvrage curieux contenant des renseignements anecdotiques sur les américains, orné d'un tableau replié dans le tome II. Relation agrémentée d'observations et de commentaires intéressants sur les institutions politiques américaines, le commerce, les mœurs et coutumes, le système pénitencier, l'esclavage et l'abolition de ce mouvement, etc… L'auteur a même consacré un volume entier à tracer le tableau des relations commerciales entre les Etats-Unis et la France. Bon exemplaire malgré les usure du temps.‎
