‎Edition originale.William Walton jr (1784-1857) était le fils du consul d'Espagne à Liverpool, également appelé William Walton. Il fut envoyé très jeune dans la péninsule ibérique pour y apprendre les langues pratiquées par les populations, et finit par accompagner l'expédition britannique de Saint-Domingue en 1802. Il demeura sur place pour veiller aux intérêts anglais jusqu'en 1809, puis retourna en Angleterre, d'abord à Bristol, puis à Londres, poursuivant une carrière d'"expert" des questions hispaniques et latino-américaines, prenant, au rebours de la plupart de ses compatriotes, une attitude très critique vis-à-vis de la politique d'ingérence anglaise dans les révolutions de l'Amérique du sud.Sabin, 101 220.
