‎Edition originale illustére de plusieurs figures dans le texte. An early English language survey of the Hebrides. Humphreys gives important chapters on Tanna and Eromanga, and shorter ones on Anaiteum, Futuna and Aniwa. Although an important work in German by Felix Speiser was published about the same time, this book is the first in English to “set down the general cultures” of the area. It deals exclusively with the southern islands, and is the first account published of the ethnology of Eromanga. ‎
