Venezia, Pietro Valvasense, 1753 - 1755.

First edition. It is rare to find together the two volumes published. No copy in Worldcat seems to have the two volumes. Illustrated by 2 frontispieces and 11 folding plates. This is an hilarious account of ten annoying misadventures, full of tasty scenes and surreal stories. Each of the ten discourses is illustrated by a plate, some most probably located in Venice. The first book is dedicated to dedicated to Neptune and the second to Triton. The first frontispiece depicting Neptune is signed by the engraver Giorgio Fossati, probably the author of the other plates. At the end of the second part, there is a curious letter from Q. Veturio Capitolino (another pseudonym for Passeri) dedicated to "Monsù Cartoccio inventor and carver of architecture beyond the mountains" on capricci d'architettura. Giovanni Battista Passeri (1694-1780), the Abbate of Pesaro, was an antiquarian, a philologist, and an archeologist. Besides publishing 'Della Seccatura Discorsi', Passeri has the distinction of having published the greatest catalogue of fake Roman terracotta lamps ever produced. /// In-8 de frontipiece, VIII, 136 p., 5 folding plates / frontipiece, 216 pp., 6 folding plates.
