Demi-veau, tranches rouges. (Reliure moderne.) //// First edition of this treatise on marine timekeepers. "This is the book which started the quarrel between the author and Pierre Le Roy. It purports to give an account of the work done in France on timekeepers for finding the longitude, but the name of Le Roy is nowhere mentionned. ... Le Roy had reason to be indignant that his work had been completely ignored by Berthoud, who claimed to have been the first after Sully to design a marine timekeeper and the fisrt to produce one." Baillie 290. Good copy.‎
