Bel exemplaire. /// In-folio de (28), 370, (2) pp. Demi-vélin. (Reliure du XVIIe.) //// First edition. Illustrated by a fine woodcut frontispiece and another large woodcut page 178: one sees a Roman thermopolium, a kind of tavern that served hot meals and drinks. "The book of Baccius is extremely rare; it is one of the most significant treaties that were published on wines from France, Spain and all the countries of Europe. There are also details on meals in Antiquity." (Vicaire 60). Summary: Book I -Vinification and storing wine. Book II - Consumption of wine, related to health conditions. Book III - Characteristics of the wines. Book IV - Use of wine in classical Antiquity. Book V - Wines of the different regions of Italy. Book VI - Imported wines in Rome. Book VII - Foreign wines. Andrea Bacci (1524-1600) first physician of Pope Sixtus VI, is the author of numerous scholarly works and this is his most important work. Probably a first issue: the first sheet of text is paginated "4", and in all copies that one can see online, this error is corrected "1". /// PLUS DE PHOTOS SUR WWW.LATUDE.NET‎
