Summary This interdisciplinary collection examines the notion of sedition in the period of the French Wars of Religion (1560-1600) and focuses not only on France itself, but also on Scotland during the reign of the French-born Mary Queen of Scots. Composed of eleven chapters written by an international team of experts, this volume concentrates on the political aspects of sedition rather than religious heresy, and covers writings and publications in a wide range of fields: politics, history, law, literature, and gender. A complementary feature of this collection is the spectrum of writings studied; they include edicts and treatises, pamphlets, broadsides, legal documents, dialogues, and satirical prose and poetry. Several chapters also address visual representations of sedition. An Introduction and a Conclusion provide synthetic analyses of the material studied in the individual chapters. This is a collection which will appeal to readers with interests in the history of political ideas and thought, the comparative study of monarchical government, and concepts of tyranny and resistance, discord, rebellion, and revolt. Diaire ou Journal du Voyage du Chancelier Séguier en Normandie après la sédition des nu-pieds (1639-1640) et documents relatifs à ce voyage et à la sédition, publiés pour la première fois d'après les manuscrits de la Bibliothèque royale avec de nombreuses annotations propres à éclaircir et compléter le texte.

Huit volumes in-8 de 600 à 700 pages chacun, avec une gravure en frontispice du tome I représentant le Palais de justice de Rouen et frontispice représentant Rouen au XVII ème siècle pour le Diaire. Rousseurs éparses, mouillure au volume du Diaire du Chancelier Séguier. Beau demi-veau rouge cerise d'époque uniforme pour les huit volumes, dos plat orné de filets dorés ayant viré au rouge brique. Reliure en bon état.
Le Parlement, institué le 6 février 1515 par François Ier, fut supprimé le 30 septembre 1790. Un essai historique sur l'Echiquier de Normandie (devenu définitivement Parlement de Normandie en 1515) occupe les pages 1 à 311 du Tome I. Cet immense travail a obtenu de l'Académie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres dans sa scéance du 11 août 1843, le grand prix Gobert, décerné chaque année à l'ouvrage le plus important sur l'histoire de France.
