Limité à 600 exemplaires dans le colophon. Il s'agit de l'exemplaire 199. Chemise cartonnée avec lithographie de Cocteau sur le premier plat. Quelques petits chocs et marques sur les planches blanches uniquement. Exemplaire complet. Le contenu comprend : le texte d'introduction, un magnifique portrait anonyme de Cocteau en pleine page, un feuillet en glassine bleue avec les étoiles européennes au recto. Ce feuillet contient deux feuilles de timbres. Chaque feuille est complète. 12 lithographies couleur pleine page de haute qualité de l'art du timbre, dont une lithographie double page. First edition. A beautiful example of this scarce portfolio; Jean Cocteau's most visible testimony in favour of Europe takes the form of a series of studies for a stamp project: unpublished drawings on the theme "We believe in Europe". Limited to 600 copies in the colophon. This is copy 199. Hardback folder with lithograph by Cocteau to the front board. A touch of bumping and marking to the white boards only. Complete copy. Contents comprise: Introductory text, beautifully produced full page anonymous portrait of Cocteau. Blue glassine folder with the European stars to the front. This contains two sheets of stamps. Each are complete. 12 full pages high quality colour lithographs of the stamp art, including one double page lithograph. A discourse on the European parliament by Louise Weiss. The inside rear board of the folder is a Cocteau face. A lovely copy. 445 by 335mm (17œ by 13Œ inches). .
A convolute atlas of large maps, mainly from Atlas François and Homman's German maps A collection of 54 double page hand coloured maps of Europe.
Paris Hubert Jaillot 1695
A marvelous convolute atlas, put together and bound between 1695 and 1757, with the majority of the maps being printed around 1696-1700. The atlas is in full leather, folio sized (53cm x 38cm). The maps themselves are all either double page or more (with multiple folds). The leather binding is in good order, with some rubbing, a little chipping to the head and tail of the spine, and slight cracking to the spine edge. there is a leather label "Cartes / Topog / Plans" to the spine. Inside, the maps and engravings are in good, clean condition, without any significant damage. Some have some staining to the blank verso. A lovely item. The atlas has an engraved frontis portrait of Jaillot, and the engraved title page of the Atlas François (Nb. This is a selection from this atlas, not the complete atlas). Then follow 54 double page, folio maps, all with hand colouring (either in outline or more). A complete listing is below, but a summary is: Hubert Jaillot, Atlas François, 18 double maps; Guillaume de L'Isle, four maps of French Diocese; 19 towns and regions by Homman, mainly in Germany; Six maps of Swiss cantons by Vindel; seven miscellaneous maps, including town plans of vienna and Berlin, a battle map (the defense of Prague), Gibraltar and the Isle of Wight. Paris: Mondhare et Jean, 1787 Une belle carte coloriée à la main, tirée de "Géographie moderne avec une introduction" de Clouet, son uvre la plus importante. La carte est centrée sur le désert du Sahara. La carte montre l'Espagne, l'Italie, la moitié de la France et « la Turquie en Europe ». Texte recto-verso (en français). Pliez au milieu de la carte, où lié dans sa géographie. Il n'y a pas de mention d'édition sur cette carte, mais elle correspond exactement aux 1787 pages de la Stanford University Collection. Verso vierge. La carte mesure 121/2" x 141/2" Le bloc gravé mesure 121/2" x 22" La feuille mesure 15" x 221/2" La carte est en bon état. Il y a une petite rousseur sur la carte, et elle a été coupée à un angle étrange, et un peu près du texte à la base de la carte (n'affectant pas le texte). Cela ne gâche pas le plaisir de la carte. Jean-Baptiste Louis Clouet (1729-1790) était un géographe français de l'Académie royale des sciences, né à Rouen. Son atlas général a été publié pour la première fois en 1767. Phillips enregistre 2 autres éditions de 1787 (Phillips No. 661) et 1791 (Phillips No. 673).
A lovely hand coloured map, taken from Clouet's "Geographie moderne avec une introduction," his most important work. The map is centred on the Sahara desert. The map shows Spain, Italy, half of France, and "Turkey in Europe." Text to both sides (in French). Fold to the middle of the map, where bound into his Geographie. There is no statement of edition on this map, but it conforms exactly to the 1787 pages in the Stanford University Collection. Verso blank. Map is 12<sup>1/2</sup>" x 14<sup>1/2</sup>" Engraved block is 12<sup>1/2</sup>" x 22" Sheet is 15" x 22<sup>1/2</sup>" The map is in good condition. There is a little foxing to the map, and it has been cut at a strange angle, and a little close to the text at the base of the map (not affecting text). It doesn't spoil the enjoyment of the map. Jean-Baptiste Louis Clouet (1729-1790) was a French geographer of the Royal Academy of Sciences, born in Rouen. His general atlas was first issued 1767. Phillips records 2 other editions from 1787 (Phillips No. 661) and 1791 (Phillips No. 673).

A very nice copy of this First Edition. A classic bibliography of wine, wine growing, menus, posters, books etc. Dust wrapper is clean and tidy, with no significant flaws. Book itself is in excellent condition. A lovely red wine coloured cloth. Black and white and colour illustrations throughout. featuring over eleven hundred fifty European titles with annotations, dating from the 15th to 20th century. 644 pages. 29cm x 21cm. .

London 1830 Une belle plaque militaire colorée à la main, tirée de l'enquête critique de Meyrick. Il s'agit de la planche 46 XLVI. Nous ne savons pas si elle provient de la première édition de 1824 ou de la seconde de 1842. D'où la date approximative de 1830. L'image colorée à la main est propre et brillante, avec seulement quelques rousseurs. Elle est maintenue sous un passe partout fait à la main, montrant la rose rouge anglaise à chaque coin. Les dimensions de la plaque sont de 30,5 cm x 25 cm pour une feuille de 36,5 cm x 26,5 cm. Le passe partout est légèrement assombri mais en bon état. 44.5cm x 38cm. Un bel exemple de cette plaque.
A lovely hand coloured military plate from Meyrick's critical inquiry. This is plate 46 XLVI. We are unsure whether this is from the 1824 first edition or the 1842 second. Hence the approximate date of 1830. The hand coloured image is clean and bright, with a little foxing only. It is held under a hand made passe partout, showing the English Red Rose to each corner. Plate dimensions 30.5cm x 25cm to a sheet of 36.5cm x 26.5cm. Passe partout is slightly darkened but in a good state. 44.5cm x 38cm. An attractive example of this plate. .
