‎Jacqueline Kennedy, née Bouvier, n'a laissé ni autobiographie ni mémoires. "Son silence sur son passé, rappela le New York Times à sa mort en 1994, surtout sur les années Kennedy et son mariage avec le Président, a toujours été voilé de mystère." C'est donc un document exceptionnel que ces entretiens, demeurés secrets pendant presque cinquante ans : au printemps 1964, quelques mois seulement après la mort de son mari, elle a accepté de revenir sur ces années cruciales avec l'historien Arthur M Schlesinger. Dans cette contribution unique, il est évidemment beaucoup question de John F. Kennedy : sa vie de sénateur, ses campagnes, sa foi catholique, ses relations avec ses frères. II y est aussi question de leur couple, de ce qu'ils se disaient en privé, et de la conception qu'avait Jacqueline du rôle de "First Lady". L'Histoire se rencontre à chaque ligne, depuis les visites d'Etat où Mme Kennedy suivait son époux (en France notamment où elle s'est entretenue avec de Gaulle) jusqu'à la tourmente de la crise de Cuba ; on croise les portraits des principales figures politiques de l'époque Khrouchtchev, Nehru, Nixon, Lyndon Johnson, dont certaines ne sont guère épargnées... La "Jackie" qui se découvre ici est neuve, véritablement : loin de l'icône des magazines de mode, c'est une jeune femme de trente-quatre ans qui s'exprime avec une émotion à fleur de peau. Son deuil tout proche ne l'empêche pas d'être pleinement consciente du poids historique de sa parole, et soucieuse d'offrir un témoignage sincère à la postérité. Désormais les frais d'envoi sont de 6 € seulement pour les livres jusqu'à 1 kg (colissimo suivi), pour la France métropolitaine.‎
