Het Sint-Joosgodshuis is een van de oudste filantropische stichtingen van de stad Brugge. Vanaf het midden van de 14de eeuw fungeerde het gebouw als passantenhuis om tegen het einde van de 16de eeuw omgevormd te worden tot een godshuis. De historische kapel en het oorspronkelijke passantenhuis verloren na de Franse revolutie hun functie en kregen verschillende bestemmingen, tot de orthodoxe parochie er in 1995 haar intrek nam en eerst de woning en later de kapel renoveerde tot bidruimte en parochiezaal voor de orthodoxe gemeenschap van de stad. Sindsdien is het gebouw de focus van een bloeiende multinationale parochie. Deze uitgave stelt de geschiedenis van het Sint-Jooscomplex en van de orthodoxe parochie van de hh. Depuis lors, le batiment et l'eglise orthodoxe vivent en harmonie symbiotique. La Maison-Dieu Sint-Joos est une des fondations caritatives les plus anciennes de la ville de Bruges. A partir du milieu du XIVe siecle le batiment fonctionnait comme une maison pour passants. A la fin du 16eme siecle, Sint-Joos evolue vers une Maison-Dieu. La chapelle Sint-Joos a, depuis son declin au 19eme siecle, connu differentes destinations: le lieu de priere degenere dans les annees 1950 et devient un entrepot pour ouvres d'art de la ville de Bruges. Depuis 1995 la paroisse orthodoxe occupe la conciergerie et plus tard la chapelle a ete transformee en lieu de culte et salle paroissiale. Depuis lors le batiment est le foyer d'une paroisse multinationale florissante. Cette edition anniversaire decrit l'histoire du complexe Sint-Joos et de la paroisse orthodoxe des SS. This book is produced to celebrate the 20th May 2015, the 20th anniversary of our orthodox parish of SS. Constantine and Helen in Bruges. The parish was founded by the current Archdeacon Athenagoras Peckstadt of Belgium in 1995 and found a home in the historical Sint-Joos almshouse complex in Bruges. Ever since, both the building and the orthodox parish form a symbiotic unity. The Sint-Joos almshouse is one of the oldest charitable foundations of the city of Bruges. From the middle of the fourteenth century the building was used as a home for passers and pilgrims. In the late 16th century, Sint-Joos evolved into a House of God. The almshouse lost its function after the French Revolution and has been used for different purposes since its decline in the 19th century until the chapel degenerated in the 1950's when it became a warehouse for the artworks of the city of Bruges. In 1995 the orthodox parish started using the building and renovated the chapel and almshouse. Ever since the building has been the focal point for an international orthodox parish.
